I had an old plastic, sun-brittled door bell button that the UPS guy broke using my package to ring it. He fessed up, so I didn't fuss about it. I was going to just get another cheapo one, but I saw this and really liked it. The curve of it actually matches my keypad deadbolt! Took all of 5 minutes to install--it's standard size so the old screw holes lined up--and looks great. Would look better if the door jamb it's attached to was in better shape. Maybe that's next.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High quality replacement button I bought this to replace an old plastic doorbell button that didn't match our new door hardware. This button is really well made - it's solid metal with a really nice satin nickel finish. It matches our satin nickel door hardware perfectly and was super easy to install. The shape was a little different than our old button, so had to sand and repaint under it a bit, but it looks great. It has clean and simple lines that should complement any front entry. Functionally, no complaints either - it is a solid-feeling button that is easy to press. I am sure it will last pretty much forever.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice and simple but good looking The door bell was very easy to install. It works with your existing 16v door bell setup, no need to change the transformer if it's still functional. I also like that button is illuminated.

The button disintegrated in less than a year and a half. Warranty is only a year and Hampton Bay/Health Co. doesn't sell just the button so you can't fix it.

It's not hard to attach two wires. It comes with two mounting screws It's illuminated so you can see it in the dark. Button has a nice new stiff spring. As for appearance it looks just dandy. It works fine. I am actually using it as a garage door opener instead of spending $35 to $40 for an "official garage door opener push button." It was installed about 10 days ago and is still working. Probably work for as long as I need it. I would buy another one in the future if I needed another doorbell.

I was trying to do install the doorbell myself, and i didn't have enough light, thanks to it getting dark, I sometimes work long hours. I was holding a flashlight.I was wrapping the wires around the new doorbell and the top wire broke off! from the wires on my doorbell, wires on my house, so my neighbor who is an electrician came over and said that they wires get old and the wire would have broke anyway.I love the way it looks, it would have been nice if i could have done the job myself. other that that, the doorbell looks very nice and works well.

I replaced an old, faded plastic doorbell button that would stick at times with this product. What an improvement! The finish, solid metal plate of a decent weight and color-matched mounting screws are high quality. I also like the lighted button which I didn't have before. This product makes the entry area look much nicer, and you can see the doorbell button at night. It was very easy to install too.

Do I need to install a diode with one?

Do I need to install a diode with one?
Asked by: Meg
You only need it if you have one of those 12+ chimes box. It needs for those differrent chimes to work. If not, I believe you get only a single standard sound.

We just installed this and we have to press it hard for it to make any sound at all, and then it only makes sound as you're pressing it. Is this because of the button or the doorbell itself? Or is it just because it's new? Will it "loosen up"?

I just installed this door bell push button yesterday, and I cannot get the light to illuminate. We are using 16v transmitter and the button sounds the bell, but it does not light up. What are my options? Should I return it and try another one? Is there something tricky about the wiring I need to check? The installation instructions do not indicate any specific wiring specifications, simply connect the two wires to the screws and it should work. Please help!

1) Can the light be replaced when it burns out? 2) What is the life expectancy of the light?
Asked by: RSeg
No. The bulb is not replaceable. You must replace the entire switch. Life expectancy might depend on the location of the unit. Mine is somewhat out of the weather and is about a year old and is still lit. Beyond that I can't say.

When I push the button, the chimes only sound for one note. I have to hold the button down if I want to hear the whole chime. I tried putting the wires together (without the button), and the whole chime sounded. I think there is a voltage problem == perhaps this button doesn't allow the amount of voltage my chimes need? Do you think this is the problem? Is there any solution other than tossing this button and getting a new one? Or do I need to buy a new chime that works with this voltage? I tried switching the red/white wires back under the other screws. Didn't make a difference.

If a door bell is already installed but the button is broken, would this be a good replacement without have to fool with the wires? I would like to do it myself, but I don't like messing with electricity.
Asked by: EAB1
Redmond Gardener answered your question already. BUT...in case you haven't done it yet, or someone else is reading this, yes, low voltage is safe to work on in this situation without cutting power to the doorbell, however, you may or may not see a very small spark as you connect the wires, depending on how you do it. If it's in broad daylight you may not see it, if it happens. You'll probably not even feel it, if it touches you. Just so you're not surprised should it happen.

I replaced front and backdoor buttons with this model. Now only front button rings full chime, and back button only one short note. I tried adding another diode to back button, which didn't help. How do I get both buttons to ring full chimes.
Asked by: MontanaJoe
MontanaJoe, If you are using this button with a wired mechanical chime (tone bar) then you should hear ding-dong for the front door and ding for the back.
