I was able to cut it to length with ease and then I applied a dark stain. I will be sealing the counter top with a poly coat, installing the cabinet doors, adding a backsplash and calling this project complete. I used this to help convert a formal dinning room with little to no usage to a more "friendly" wine/beer sitting area/room.I will say that one side did have a significant amount of filler however, the other side was clean. It definitely would have been a plus to be able to choose which side I wanted. This is a small complaint, but I did want to mention it to others

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good buy Pretty nice, but did contain some flaws. I had one 8 foot, one 6 foot, and 2 four foot countertops to make two L desks. Typically one side would have more flaws than the other, and that one would be thr bottom. A couple of things for newbies to note: these are longer than the header lists by 2 inches. Messed up my floor plan. Also, you find out after opening (vis a paper on the inside of the wrapping) that they start warping after exposure to ambient moisture if you don’t finish them within a couple of days. Did find this to be true, as we didnt have all our project supplies right away. Did turn out great anyway. Note: the 6 and 4 footer are in the photo. The 8 footer is out of frame.

We used it as part of a remodel of our entertainment center where we ripped out shelving that was suitable for the era of a 55 inch triniton bit useless for the flat screen time we now live in. I ordered these countertops online and they shipped directly to our front door! We used the countertops over some frameless cabinets. We used two sections of countertops. I used a long section in the middle then cut both ends to fit and joined the countertop along the factory edge. I used pocket screws to join the countertops together then screwed from inside the cabinets to pull the countertop down to the cabinets. I used stainable wood putty in the joints then did a fair bit of sanding to get the top nice and smooth before we stained with Minwax and did a urethane top coat. We are very happy with the results!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Warps - unusable Bought two of these. One warped so badly that it can't be used. I followed instructions. I opened the packaged, immediately sanded and then applied penetrating tung oil to the counter. I applied three more coats of tung oil over the next several days. But by the 4th day one of the counters is warped so badly that it can't be used. What a waste of time and money.

Each side is slightly different, so someone could use one side to have a more uniform look, or the busier side with more knots, etc. I would use this again!

Any issues with cutting this two inches shorter and using it as a work bench top?

Asked by: Skeo
Nope. Just cut it with your circ saw and you should be good to go. I cut mine into thirds and used the ends to make a countertop to fit.

Is staining and sealing necessary if I intend to use this as a desk top?

Is staining and sealing necessary if I intend to use this as a desk top?
Asked by: Stafford
Staining will change the color only and is optional depending on your taste. Sealing is very much required. If you do not seal the wood, it will dry out and will likely crack. If you seal with an oil finish (tung oil, linseed oil, etc.), periodic applications of oil (1-2 times a year) will be needed.

I like to hit the block with a little sand paper to open up the pours. Treating the top you can use polyurethane or mineral oil or butcher block conditioner. They all work great....pick one not multiple options. Use several coats.

I would like to keep the original birch color on the countertops, how do you recommend I seal it to keep the color without staining it? Also, is the 98" length true to size? I need 97.5".

Asked by: Lirio
I used rubio mono coat in color:natural and it came very close to the original color of the birch wood which is what i was looking for. They add 5% white to the natural linseed oil to offset the golden color the linseed oil gives the wood.
