Rated 1 out of 5 by from Did not handle cold/dry seasons. Purchased the countertop back in July. Fit the space perfectly and looked great at the time, however with the changes in temperature during the fall&winter the wood is now splitting on each end and is leaving 5-6" gaps from top to bottom. Looks like the wood adhesive couldn't handle the expansion/contracting in the wood caused by temperature changes. Very disappointed and worried about more splitting throughout the winter months.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Do your research Do your homework. The picture is not what the wood looks like. Best to visit in store, or visit Hardwood reflections website or facebook page to see additional picture samples. The order arrived with both boxes damaged. There were some minor dings to the actual slabs which we were able to sand out. Note that you need to treat the wood within 24 hours of opening the boxes and removing the plastic to prevent warping. We treated ours with at least 8 coats of butcherblock oil which is mineral oil based and food safe. Both top, bottom and sides as once its installed you cant treat the underside easily. We also added a protective layer between the dishwasher and the block to prevent moisture damage. Looks great and overall quality was pretty good for the price.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor construction - wood is separating I bought this just two years ago and the individual wood sections are separating from each other. Buyer beware - the warranty is only for 3 months! Not nearly enough time to see what the true quality of this product is like.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful piece of wood Very happy with this purchase. You have to be ready to finish this piece when you peel off the packaging. Especially if you have to custom cut it and/or fit it for an under mount like I did. Only issue I had was that I wasn’t overly impressed with the sanding on the “finished” side. I went back over it with 120 and 220 grit to smooth it out. That wasn’t a big enough deal not to give it 5 stars!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from CONTRACTOR - CUTTING AND JOINING Great product, was very impressed on how it was packaged. Came out of shipping flawless. I had to make some custom rips for a high bar top and join to pieces together to make 12'. Used glue, biscuit joiner, and ratchet straps to join the 2 together. Lightly sanded joint and it was perfect, USE VERY SHARP BLADES ON THIS PRODUCT, it will surprise you on how much it demands sharp blades.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything I Hoped For I bought this and hoped I wouldn't be disappointed. I wasn't. Very thick and sturdy. Shipped to store to save extra cost, and came packaged in cardboard box with extra protection on corners. Cut to size easy, mitre cut with biscuits and glue. Stained and lacquered, breakfast counter done. All with supplies from local Home Depot. I think it came out great. Easie Peasie.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Kitchen Install I have installed this product in my kitchen for all my countertops. It is very stable and well constructed. Make sure you use a high quality oil such as Osmo Top Oil to finish all surfaces. This is an awesome alternative to expensive countertops and looks fantastic with a subway tile backsplash. The only concern some people may have is that it is slightly softer than maple. You can expect to get a few dings and dents but that is part of the character of butcher block. I would definitely purchase this again in the future.

Hi there, Are these countertops wrapped in plastic? I'm afraid that they may be wrapped up when they still hold a lot of moisture, and once unwrapped they will crack and deform? Can you please confirm. Regards, Timm

Asked by: Timm
I’m a pro cabinet maker from Scotland theses countertops are very stable but to make sure I sanded and gave them all 3 coats of an oil based clear varnish also from Home Depot and I installed them in our pizza Bakery I covers the tops in clear outdoor grade plastic for tables they have all stayed in perfect shape no cracks or warping they have been installed 3 years now  Best real wood counters for this kind of money  I would recommend theses products

Hi, I want to use this for my bathroom vanity top. How do I protect the service from water damage?

Asked by: Mia Park
Primarily: This should NOT be used in a high humidity location like a bathroom. That being said, if it's to be used in a powder room (no shower or bath) your best chance would be to use an oil based, marine varathane on ALL SURFACES (many coats)... even those surfaces never to be seen. Again, bad idea to use wood in a potentially wet location.

Can I use INTERBUILD White hardwax stain on this to give it a whitewash effect?

Asked by: Jwalt
Jwalt, We are not finish experts. For the best advice I recommend going to your local Home depot stain expert. I did read al little on this product vis Google and it looks like it is a sealant that can be used on unfinished material. I will say that Birch in general is a very light color of wood, I would be cautious of how well this shows up. Again, please consult with your local Home Depot for the best advice regarding this wax. Thank you-- Hardwood Reflections.

Hardwood Reflections Gel Stains are not available in Canada at Home Depot. I want to use your satin top coat and walnut gel stain for your butcher blocks. Is there a type you recommend that can be purchased from Home Depot in Canada

Asked by: LarryP5432
Great question. I would ask your local Home Depot paint department.

Because 25" is standard counter depth.

Will Home Depot rip this to 24"?

Asked by: Danne
Danne-ask your local Home Depot. If they say yes; Home Depot uses a rough saw. Place the butcher block's best face down and then leave 1/8" so you can sand down smooth making 24" wide block.

Anyone know if the glue used to bond the slab together is free from formaldehyde?

Asked by: zer0c007
I know that answer............and it is a resounding "free of formaldehyde". We use a D4 Glue which is a solvent free industrial grade wood adhesive. The glue is actually stronger than the wood and is totally waterproof, impact resistant and temperature resistant.
