The packaging says that the solder kit is for use on circuit boards, eyeglasses, and jewelry repair. I purchased it to use on a circuit board. Before I used the water soluble flux I wanted to know exactly how to use it. I didn't see any technical specifications on the package, nor a website where I could quickly find the information. After reading a few articles comparing the different types of flux I learned that water soluble flux requires thorough removal from circuit boards. I would expect the need to thoroughly remove the water soluble flux from a circuit board would have been printed clearly in large print on the packaging and tube of flux; additionally the products and procedures for removing the flux should be given, or a website the gives these details. I expect that many people would read that it is for use on circuit boards and apply the flux and not be overly concerned about cleaning it off the circuit board contacts. Novice do-it-yourselfers may easily expect all critical information to be stated.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk The package says silver solder but I doubt the purity. Additionally, the flux is useless. If you want to solder anything except copper, it is USELESS. With silver solder, it would be nice to have a much more aggressive flux. Buy something else.

Just be aware you will need a new higher temp soldering gun / iron to melt this stuff. Can't rate it, as I couldn't melt it. But it won't let me have void stars, so giving it a one star.. maybe they'll post a warning on the label?

Can this be used for copper pipe used for potable water

on the package it says not for plumbing

I need be sure this product is proper for electrical soldering with tin wire's and soldering iron

Asked by: Rey
The flux in this kit contains zinc chloride which can be quite corrosive. If you use it for electrical / electronic work make sure that you clean off the residue from the flux after soldering. Better yet, use a low corrosive rosin flux if you can find one. A simple rosin flux works well on easy to solder materials such as copper wiring and electronics and isn't as corrosive as fluxes with zinc chloride. If you use a zinc chloride flux, pay attention to the safety warnings on the packaging. The solder in the kit should be safe for copper wire and printed circuit boards, but it would be my preference to use a finer gauge of solder for printed circuit board work. The solder in this kit is 1.6 mm. Home depot also has has a 1.0 mm rosin core solder which I would prefer over this for electronics. Even with a rosin core solder, you may have an easier time soldering if you treat the wires with additional rosin flux before soldering.

Proper solder

Asked by: Wayno
Dear Valued Home Depot Customer, We reached out to MFG for more information and below is their response. “ Any solder and flux can work. An acid core solder is best for metal work in non-plumbing applications. " Thanks, The Home Depot User Generated Content Team

what type of flux do you use on stainless steel?

Asked by: Leonarn
This isn't really the best way to work with stainless. Mostly for copper and brass. If you need a good bond with stainless find a friend with a tig (tungsten inert gas) welder.

Is this good to use on old underground copper pipes?

Asked by: Aaron
Hello, and thank you for your question. For the use case you have mentioned, I would recommend our TS4000 High Heat Torch or our TS8000 Max Heat Torch used with propane fuel. The torch you have inquired about uses butane fuel, which would not burn hot enough to complete a job of this nature. If you hyave any additional questions, we encourage you to reach out to us at: Bernzomatic@WorthingtonIndustries.com or at 1-877-324-4091. Thank you.

Will it work on steel? On carbon steel, or on alloy steel, not stainless.

Asked by: Ab
Hello, and thank you for your question. For the use case you are describing, I would recommend our brazing rods. This could work, however, the material would need to be relatively thin for a strong hold.
