Rated 3 out of 5 by HandyHal from Basic and May Increase Efficiency If you do not have allergies and open your windows on nicer days, there is little reason to over filter your furnace air. This basic filter will catch damaging pet hair and harmful dust to protect the equipment WITHOUT restricting air flow. That less restricted air flow will increase the cooling and heating effect. It also lessens the risk of an A-coil freeze-up when the AC is running. If you feel no flow or VERY weak air flow from your air vents when the fan is running, you may be over filtering.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Maltonmanor from Poor Quality but can be made to work. These filter types are perfect for pre-cleaning scrubbers like a Lifebreath Air Cleaner. Mine holds 6 of these filters and acts as a pre-cleaner, pulling the largest particles out of the airflow before it goes through the hepa filter at the furnace. The problem with these filters is they are put together so badly that they are all larger than the 20x20 they are sold as. Trying to squeeze it in, the filter will end up collapsing and being destroyed. You can make them work though by shaving any overhang at the four corners with a blade or X-acto knife. This will bring them down to the 20x20 size and will allow you to use them. For the price and the proper application, these are acceptable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Karlos from Good quality inexpensive furnace filters Cheapo filters .. replaced often as opposed to expensive filters replaced annually. I was told by the furnace installer just to use these cheap filters.I replace the filters monthly during the heating and cooling season and every 2 months during the spring and fall.No issues they work just fine and the price is RIGHT ! You really don’t need the expensive HEPA filters these work just fine !!

As per the recommendation of my HVAC technician, I buy these filers (the cheapest on the market) and replace them monthly. These filters are good enough to catch any contaminants and will greatly reduce strain on your furnace if replaced monthly.

Several HVAC experts have told me how the more expensive thick filters may be better for allergies, but are a colossal drain on the pocket book and will wear down your furnace more quickly, especially in warm months when the AC is running.

Apparently the more expensive filters restrict air flow, reducing the usable life of a furnace. These are very flimsy and cheap….but we have less dust in the house since switching.

What Merv rating are these filters?

No clue about Merv but my home inspector of many years said to buy the cheapest filters and change them the beginning of every month to keep your furnace running best and clean.  The thicker filters are harder for airflow to pass through.
