How heavy extension cord do I need to run a microwave???

How heavy extension cord do I need to run a microwave???
Asked by: Dale
It depends on the wattage of the microwave oven. If it is a 1200-watt microwave, then 10Amp is needed to run effectively. If it is a 1500-watt microwave, then 13 Amps is needed. This power cord is rated at maximum 13 Amps therefore it should be OK for 1200 to 1500 watt microwave oven

What extension cord is the best for a pool spa - is 13 amps enough
Asked by: MAP
This extension cord is a 16 gauge and will work for 13 Amps. I will use this for occasional use only. If this is my case, I will connect it hardwire directly instead from a very good GFCI.

can I put two outdoor cords together to make it reach more

can I put two outdoor cords together to make it reach more
Asked by: tooshort
You may combine extension cords to increase length, however, as the length is increased there is potential for unwanted voltage drop. It all depends on the wattage of the device and the length of the cord. A 16/3 extension cord is good for about 800 watts up to 50'. If 2 cords are connected together and the total length is more than 50' it would be advisable to upgrade to a 14/3 cord or even a 12/3 cord. The exception would be if you are only plugging in something like an LED light with VERY LITTLE power draw then the 16/3 is OK.

I have a DeWalt DWBL 700 12 AMP hand blower. Will this cord work?

Asked by: Amy
Typically high wattage motorized power tools should be used only with 12/3 extension cords up to 50'. If more than 50' then it should be a 10/3 cord so the voltage drop to the motor is minimized.

Is this good for hair dryer?

Is this good for hair dryer?
Asked by: Jen
Hair dryers are considered HIGH wattage devices. A minimum of a 14 gauge or better yet a 12 gauge extension cord is advisable. Many times these lighter weight extension cords can heat up and melt where the cord and plug mate. I would not use it for a hair dryer.

Apply to outdoor string light, will it be okay in the rain?

Leaving outside plugged to an outlet
Asked by: Henry
Electric code requires Weather Proof Ground Fault Interrupter type receptacles for outdoor use. If you have this type installed (and it shuts off when you push the test button) then should be OK to use the extension cord outdoors. It is advisable to cover the end where the lights plug in to keep heavy water intrusion out. If there is a problem the GFI should shut off power and prevent electric shock. If no GFI is available it is NOT advisable to use an extension cord in the rain.
