Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent wood product, highly recommend Beautiful wood. packaged very well and delivery was faster than I thought it would be. I made stand up desks with this wood for my office. You have to seal this wood quickly, or it will crack. I used polyurethane. I tried to stain one a dark mahogany, and I didn't like it so I sanded it down. The stain soaked in a bit just to make the piece a little darker but very interesting. So far I love the desks and the natural flow in the wood grain.

Can I apply and oil based wipe on polyurethane such as Arm-R-Seal from General Finishes on top of this freshly purchased product ? If not which finishing product do I use when I need to reapply protection after a couple of years?

    Asked by: Vinny
Regarding using polyurethane finishes, it is not generally accepted if you are preparing food on top of the surface. If you using cutting boards separately to prepare food on top of the counter, eg chopping and cutting, which is generally the case anyway, then the polyurethane finish will work to seal the wood surface against water penetration. Remember to apply the sealant to all six sides whether it is polyurethane or natural oil.
