Rated 1 out of 5 by from No battery backup! Loose power and totally reprogram. Warning: loose power and you will have to totally reprogram time, heating program, cooling program, and Wifi! Hope that designer at Honeywell quit over that mistake. With a battery backup, I would give 5 stars! In less than hour got it installed, programmed, on wifi. Worked great. Next day I went to install on second unit and had to kill power to units for install on 2nd unit. Fast install. Turned power back on and first unit had lost all the programs. A simple battery backup would have prevented this! I refuse to have to reprogram the system anytime a storm makes the power out for a few minutes. Will be returning ASAP for a different brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth every penny At first I was hesitant to spend this much money on a thermostat, but in the end it was 100% worth it. I have COMPLETE control over the heating and cooling in my home now. You can dial it in by 15 minute increments any day of the week. My frustration with older models is that everything has to be done on the unit itself. This involved pushing a lot of buttons and trying to read small type on a greenish yellow backlight. Because of the WI-FI capability on this unit you do all the programming on your computer! The other great thing is that between the printed guides and videos you watch online, installation was very simple. This is a fantastic product that I would recommend to anyone.

The temperature differential between on and off points is not directly adjustable. This thermostat makes you enter information about your furnace, and then it automatically regulates the temperature how it sees fit. You cannot adjust the differential between on and off points. The setpoint is regulated so tightly that this causes short cycling in your furnace. I'm really surprised one of the most basic, obvious settings is not available. Also, I noted that the unit does not snap to its back plate very well unless you push it very hard. The bottom doesn't like to grab. Luckily, Home Depot took it back for a full refund.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Still Struggling with It I gave one of these as a present & was then thrilled to receive one from my wife after she saw how cool I thought it was. Installation cost me an HVAC service call because it required a C wire to power it. That was worth it, however, to get the remote access control. The unit kept disconnecting from our wifi and had to be reset often. (The wifi transmitter is about 8 ft from the thermostat.) Finally I decided that one unit must be a lemon and returned it for another. Same thing with this one. We've had it for a couple of weeks and haven't once been able to control it remotely. I'm online today looking for other options. I'm giving up on this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to install but you may need power I found the installation to be easy but in my situation needed to provide power as my old thermostat was a 2-wire for baseboard HW heat only, no AC. They call for 24 volt DC but I had my security system within a couple of feet and that runs on 16 to 17 volts. Hooked it up to the lower voltage and it seems to work fine. I check the temp by cell phone and it gives fast and accurate results (the outside temp is based on the internet, not an actual reading). I tested to see what happens if there is a power failure. Of course the wi-fi was out and my furnace couldn't run without electricity. The software notified me and after the power was restored (by me) the system re-set it self with no loss of programming and continued on.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Totally Useless I purchased this Honeywell Wifi thermostat in order to control the heat in my home when traveling. Every time I have traveled out of state, I get the following message "This thermostat is not communicating with the system as of (date)". Once this message appears, the only way to correct the problem is to pull the thermostat off the wall, wait, then plug it back in. There's no way to reconnect, while you're away from home which is immensely frustrating. I don't know if the connection problem is an app issue or a Honeywell server issue. The thermostat seems to work well as a "stand alone" thermostat but is absolutely unreliable as a wifi unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth every penny! Works exactly as described! It is set to run a program, but if you leave the house for the afternoon and forget to turn back -you can do so right from your phone..anywhere! On multiple occasions I have been working around the house and get too warm but do not want to take the the time to run upstairs (or down) to turn the heat down, so I just pull out my phone and adjust. Also adjusting the programming schedule from the comfort of bed on the iPad -very nice. Great product and worth the extra money over the cost of a standard thermostat!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for second home I was initially concerned with some reviewers stating connection stability problems with this unit. I have a second home condo that has complex wide internet coverage that isn't exactly dedicated home wifi router strong. I can say without question this thermostat never loses connection in this lightly covered wifi area. The web interface and phone apps work perfect and aren't overly complicated with features that are rarely used. The app has what you need and nothing more to clutter the screen. We have a four hour drive to this condo and it works perfect to set to preheat or precool the unit when we start our journey. Highly recommended.

We want this for a vacation home. Can we set the temperature from a home computer? Are there resttrictions?

Asked by: Carey
You can set the temperate from a home computer. You'd need a wireless network providing internet access available to the thermostat in your vacation home. From there, it's pretty easy. Just register the device ID on Honeywell's website: https://rs.alarmnet.com/TotalConnectComfort/ Honeywell has official apps for Android and iOS, and there's a Windows 8/Windows Phone app called Comfort Connect that I've been using on my Windows devices.

Does the Honeywell Wi-Fi 7 - Day programmable thermostat require a fee for the internet portal and if so what is that fee?

Asked by: John
Just attempted logging into my total connect - honeywell spun off their cloud to this global firm and the new fineprint of their required EULA suggests a fee is just around the corner....

Does WIFI Reconnect After A Sustained Power Outage?

Does WIFI reconnect after a sustained power outage, say, of a day? I was told by Honeywell chat that would be the case. Just sort of wanted to verify here. Thanks.
Asked by: Thermostat Guy
Yes. I had the same question, and bought the thermostat for my vacation house anyway and hoped for the best. I have had a couple of power outages (the longest was only about a couple of hours), and the thermostat reconnected and retained all of its settings (date/time, programmed schedule, etc.)

Does the thermostat make a clicking sound when it turns on/off, or is it silent?

Asked by: Strkinghammer
A soft click sound can be heard as one would expect from any device that has a relay within it. Not annoying at all.

2 zones controlled by one app

My house has two zones. I would like to control both via the same app. Is this possible?
Asked by: bob
Yes this is definitely possible. My place of business has 4 zones, and I will eventually be controlling all 4 zones with the same application. When you launch the application, you are presented with a list of all the thermostats that you own. You simply select which thermostat you want to work with and adjust the settings.

Can this thermostate work eveh if i dont want the wi-fi hooked up

Asked by: Jrw
Hi Jrw, the Wi-Fi feature can be turned off on the thermostat. Even if you regularly use it with Wi-Fi but it goes offline, it will keep controlling your HVAC system as long as there is power.

Can I use the wifi feature on this thermostat to check the temperarure in my home? It’s a second home.

Asked by: Lexi
Yes completely programmable from the app, 4 different periods per day. On and off, change from heat to cool whatever you want on the app remotely. Life changer for me with a lake house and arriving with it nice and cool or warm from my phone on the way there ;) Then I have two at the main house also, so can do both houses remotely. Learn more at https://www.honeywellhome.com/us/en/products/air/thermostats/wifi-thermostats/wi-fi-7-day-programmable-thermostat-rth6580wf1001-u1/ They make a bunch of newer ones too that just so more, but this works great and is inexpensive.
