I have two small thermostats in my companies office that were constantly being adjusted to extremes by the warring "Climate Tribes" in the main cubicle areas. After a long Holiday weekend, I entered my office to find one portion blowing frigid air and another zone blowing heat. I found one thermostat on 78 and "Heat" and the other on 70 and "Cool". When I entered my 80+ degree office I decided to buy the Thermostat guards. Really glad I did. These work great and do not look too huge over the 3"X5" thermostats on the wall. Installation is very simple and took about 5 minutes for me to put both up on the wall.

Our house has an invisible guest named, "I didn't do it," that is in the habit of lowering the settings on our thermostat. We now have the gremlin stopped in it's tracks. We love the features on this model because we can easily change out to upgrade the thermostat itself. Our house has the bulky 80's model thermostat currently and it will eventually need upgrading. It wasn't easy to tell based on the picture if the unit would fit over ours. I am very pleased so far!

After years of disrespect from my wife and children about the room temparature I now have their obedience once again. Ha! You should see those pesky peasants shiver in their hoodies and wool socks. And for the money I save on the bill, I can buy even more technical gadgets for controlling the temperature everywhere in my house. My children no longer have the ability to change the temperature on their radiators after I installed a smart regulation system. And guess where that's controlled from? Right! From the thermostat that I only have the key to. Negatives: bad for sex life as wife protests because she is cold. Worth it though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Item is a MUST for ALL Homes! I purchased this Honeywell Thermostat Guard, to STOP other people who live in my house from changing MY Thermostat settings. Everytime I would set my thermostat where I wanted it, someone else would come along and change it. No one would admitt to it, and I got tired of paying a large gas & electric bill every month. No one else is helping me to pay my Gas & Electric bill, so they needed to keep their hands off, but they wouldn't. This Thermostat Guard LOCKS over my thermostat, and now NO ONE else can change my settings. It is made of a strong clear plastic so I can easily see what my thermostat is set at. It was very, very easy to install, I was able to do it in just five minutes. It has a really strong lock, and it comes with 2 keys. I don't know what else I can say about this item except that it does exactly what I wanted it to, and the cost was reasonable.

But, If Tenants want to break into the thermostat guard they all they have to do is use a thin piece of wire or a coathanger...I was shown this procedure & tried it myself & found it easy to adjust the temp. with a little skill....So, I purchsed a very small amount of thin lexan (shatterproof plastic), measured the interior, cut, and glued the interior covering the holes. Now I do not think it can be adjusted unless the tenant rips it off the wall doing further damage. Also, I do think the price iv very high (thought it would be under $10.00) but with oil prices as high as they are this should deter heat abusing tenants.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Stable temp I laughed when reading reviews before I purchased this, as it seems I am not alone in frustration over thermostat control. This device installed easily. The lock works fine though not quite as smoothly as I would like. The whole thing seems a bit vulnerable to someone taking out frustration or anger at being locked out and prying if not yanking it off the wall, but that isn't usually the case in a residential setting and isn't a problem in mine. The size, a bit larger than another I considered, fit perfectly over my thermostat. I appreciated the reviewer who mentioned the size listed covers outside dimensions and that the inside dimension is slightly smaller. All in all, I would prefer not to have to use this, but it's serving the purpose well.

This cover has two pieces. A base that is attached to the wall with four screws. This section goes over the existing thermostat. Installation DOES NOT require the removal of the thermostat. Then the locking cover part has tabs that fit into indents in the base part which allow it to hinge over the base so that the key-lock can latch and secure the cover.

I would imagine you could.... I had an older cover on one of my thermostats and lost the key so when I bought this newer model the key worked on the older one and I believe it is at least 10 plus years older!!! Not sure if this helped at all.

Are all the keys the same?

I would like to purchase this to keep my non-utility-paying roommates from changing my settings. Are the keys/locks unique, or, can they simply buy another identical Honeywell thermostat guard cover and use that key to open mine? (Yes, sadly they would try that)

The Honeywell CG510, CG511 and CG512 family of thermostat guards all use the same key. If someone did buy another guard, just to have the key, they would be able to open the CG511 you are considering. One option you may want to consider is looking in to a thermostat that allows you to lock out the keypad or touch screen. For information on Honeywell thermostats with that feature, as well as which would be compatible with your system, please contact the Honeywell Consumer Technical Support Line at 1-800-468-1502. When you call have as much information as possible about your existing thermostat: Make & Model. If there is a separate subbase that the wires attach to, what is that part number? What is the letter designation for each terminal that has a wire attached to it? What type of heating and cooling do you have?

What size drill bit do you use to install the drywall anchors that come in the package

Honeywell gives no directions in the package the product comes in and list no information on there web site about cg511a thermostat guard
