Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don’t even think of using a dimmer! Bought this fan not realizing it uses 14 CFL bulbs. Bought a Hunter universal remote to control the speed and the light. Changed out the CFL bulbs (they’re not dimmable) for dimmable LED bulbs which when paired with the remote does not dim the light. They should put on the packaging that this fan DOES NOT work with a dimmer remote control. I swapped out the bulb with an incandescent bulb and the remote works- BUT because of wattage restrictions I can’t use incandescent bulbs because I can’t find any. The fan is ok otherwise BUT Hunter should say the fan won’t work with a dimmer and STOP selling a $95 universal remote that’s supposed to work with it!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Difficult Assembly I bought the Hunter model 59181 Antero 46 inch fan to replace an old fan that died (I ran the old fan 24/7/365 and after 3 years it gave up). This Antero fan is the eighth fan I have installed over the past few years. As a handyman I normally take about 1-2 hours to install a ceiling fan assuming the infrastructure is in place and adequate. This Antero fan took me 3+ hours to install, it expanded my vocabulary and tested my blood pressure medication. To be fair, the instructions are adequate and all the components for the fan are in the box and the installation is standard. It’s the assembly of the fan/light kit that is frustrating. The light kit assembly holding connectors and wiring is held on by 3 screws. Two screws are easy to install BUT try to install the third screw (which locks the assembly into place). I ended up -hot melt gluing- the screw onto the end of my screwdriver and with it in my right hand, a flashlight held in my teeth, and my left hand holding back the wiring and trying to align the housings screw holes I succeeded in getting the third screw into place. After this you have to mate the connector inside the housing assembly and of course do you think the wires are long enough to make this easy? What a crazy design! At this point I think I would give this fan only 3 screw drivers out of 5.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Light Doesnt Work Plus Terrible Service I bought this fan 6 weeks ago and was so excited because it is beautiful. It was difficult to install, the instructions only provide new build installation which was weird. We got everything hooked up properly and found that the light doesn't work (yes there's power the fan works and the 1 connector for the light assembly is properly lined up). I contacted Hunter Fans the next day for a solution as I was not about the uninstall the light after all we had to go through to get it in. It got a quick initial response and was directed to their Canadian counter part. I have now followed up twice with Hunter since I have not heard anything from their counter part yet. Needless to say this continues to be a very frustrating experience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fans are a challenge This is a good fan by spec and reputation. I got it because of how quiet it is, and it has a manufacturer web site. Installation is a bit tough, but then all fans are in their own way. The assembly guide is adequate but could use more detail. Things to prepare for: 1. The safety cord (aircraft wire) is way long and needs to be shortened. The installation indicates to wrap the wire around the roof truss, which I won’t do. Shorten the cord and knot it onto the plastic bushing, and get a good 2 inch structural screw to anchor the cord in the electrical box. 2. The 3 inch anchor screws are Philips type and soft. I rotated the head off while tightening the fan base plate into the ceiling electrical box. Get a good 3 inch structural screw. Note – the installation manual does not show adequate detail on baseplate mounting. Mount the plate screws through the small holes in the base of the electrical box, into the wood. This way the wood support holds the base plate and not the electrical box. 3. The wires are not labelled for light and fan = blue vs black. You’ll need to experiment to get the correct wire attached to the switch. 4. The kit I got uses CFL lights, so a combination fan/light switch won’t work as most are rated for incandescent lights. After sorting all that out, everything installs well, and the fan is perfect = quiet.

Great looking fan and very quiet but after running the fan for a while my family started to notice a weird oily smell. I thought it might just be the new plastics but it wouldn't go away and smelled pretty toxic. Looked it up on the internet and it seemed like a pretty common issue with these Hunter fans and was advised to return it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect Match ! Hunter has always made great products, and after we had new flooring installed in our Park Modal trailer, we needed 2 new fans, and the had to match. These are absolutely perfect, and almost easy to install, except the brochure you follow does not begin to tell you how much "other" wiring there is already in the light kit, and learnt after the first install, to pull through the speed/light cords before installing the light, but we're both thrilled with the look and how great they work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy install *tip I bought, assembled and installed this fan in my parents cottage. Here is a tip for all that are complaining about the third set screw to attach the light. Wrap a piece of masking tape to hold the screw to the end of the screwdriver. You’re welcome in advance. The light could be brighter so you may want to buy better bulbs than the supplied ones. Just stick to maximum recommended. I purchased chain extensions so my parents don’t have to get on a chair to switch light and speeds.

What does 'light kit included' mean?

It means you get the light fixture including the bulb and cover with the fan unit. Some fans do not come with a light and are simply for moving air and not providing light. This unit provides both a fan for air movement and a light for visibility.

 I have had this exact fan for about two years now and the highest speed has stopped working though the other two speeds still work… Anybody have any ideas?

 Thanks Home Depot I have! They told me a few things: 1.  That the problem is something called a fire stopper and it said quick and easy thing to fix. “Click and play“. 2. That this fan is only sold in Canada only, therefore, they needed to send my to Canadian support and re-directed me to The Fan Shop in Toronto who had absolutely no idea what a fire stopper is. 3. They suggested it was the switch and to just open the housing have a look something may actually just be disconnected or the switching thingy he may need replacing. (I am 5’4” and on a disability with extreme arthritis in my hands -  this should be fun!)  4. The Fan Shop only supports in the GTA because, after all, that’s all that Canada really is...(I’m in Montreal) -  Way to go Hunter what a great set up for Canadian support!    I love the fan! And when it was working it was great! I bought it during a major reno  so I didn’t have to install it - the construction company managed that hassle from what I’m reading in other reviews.     So bottom line I still have a fan that doesn’t work properly in this heat! I will be sure to not buy any Hunter Fans in the future knowing what their Canadian supporters like!

Do I need to use the downrod or can this be installed "hugger" to ceiling
