Rated 3 out of 5 by from decent but flawed Was well packaged and the colour is nice but there is at least one spot that the wood is filled, poorly at that.. basically a finger sized groove that I will have to re-fill on my own. if i didn't need to install it right away I would have sent it back.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from 96 inch x 25.5 inch x 1 inch Acacia Wood Kitchen C The espresso finish should be called black. I had to sand just to smooth the wood and bring out some of the grain The espresso finish was so thick and fresh it came off the wood in little rubber beads You will need to purchase a butcher block finishing oil at the same time so you have the oil when the countertops show up. They don’t tell you that on the site I used the recommended oil from by Interbuild but stopped after three coats when it would not dry at all and had to sand it all the way back. I got another companies product and it has now worked well. The top is slightly warped, not terrible but still. You can see some planner marks on the good side even after sanding.

On the bright side, the counter is solid wood, pressed-together strips of acacia, 1.5" thick. Heavy and substantial. On the not-very-bright side, the strips of wood make the surface look striped, made much worse by the fact that it's not espresso-finished. It is MUCH lighter than espresso (certainly doesn't look anything like the photo online), so with its varied-almost-striped appearance it's completely unacceptable for my application. I've had to restain it with a blend of dark walnut and ebony from Minwax, and that's not working out so well. The variation in the textures is making the staining dry unevenly, so I'm losing time on my job. I suppose the only thing to do after it all dries is to put a water-based urethane on it to make it smooth. At least the obvious stripes are gone with the dark stain combo I used. Real disappointment. And a lot of unnecessary work.

I bought this 2 months ago and will have it in storage for about a year. Is there anything I need to do to maintain it before it installed? It is in it's original packaging.

Asked by: Jenn
Please store the product flat and do not remove it from the shrinkwrapping. Once you are ready to install it and have cut it for length and for a sink, you must top coat the countertop on all six sides with a natural wood oil finish to condition and seal the wood from moisture and humidity fluctuations. Natural wood oils include boiled linseed oil, danish oil and tong oil. Home Depot has a food-safe WATCO brand butcher block oil that works as well.
