Lots of room inside the box and fits in with our grey hardi plank siding. Hint: because of the brush wood look there are tiny fibres and dust all over the parts. Take all the pieces and wash them with soapy water and a hose before assembly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy and durable A child can put this together. I did this on my own in approximately 12min. Sometimes the "snaps" needed a little push and I just tapped a block of wood to snap them in, a rubber hammer will work just as good I suppose. It's good quality material and I like that it can be locked. It is much larger than I had anticipated but that's just a bonus to me. Time will tell if the price is worth it but in my experience this material can last for years to come.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Durable I have had this box for 2 years and it's a quality item. It has stayed outside the entire 2 years. It still looks nice and due to the colors it does not appear dirty although I know it likely is. It has held up to our weather, including 2 brutal winters with lots of snow and temp down to minus 30 celcius. It has also held up to my son who is hard on things. Like everything, the price has gone up 25% since I bought it. Despite that, if you are looking for an attractive, quality storage bench to keep your stuff out of the elements look no further.

The only reason I was disappointed is because I chose this one based on the color so it would match what I have and it is not even close to this light color gray. It is very very dark gray. Still looks nice but not advertised correctly in the picture.

Is this storage trunk airtight? I.e., is there any holes at all where insects could get in?

Hello Ashton, It will keep contents dry. It is weather resistant, not waterproof. This is UV protected and will not fade. It is constructed from all-weather polypropylene resin plastic that will never chip, rust, rot or peel.

can you step on this and use it as a top step for a hot tub?

I would say yes … it is very sturdy we use it for extra seating as well. I believe it holds up to 300lbs but double check the specs on that I have stood on it multiple times.

If the item is not waterproof, is it then suggested that the unit be covered or stored during the winter?

Although it isn't considered "waterproof," it is built in such a way as to protect the contents. We left ours outside uncovered all winter. I just opened the cover and all of our chair cushions are completely dry. There is no water at all on the floor of the box.
