Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not Suitable for Fire Drills We have 2 kids and want to practice fire drills so the kids are comfortable using the ladder. However, this ladder is a SINGLE-USE product which means you should only use it for emergencies and you cannot practice with it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Idea but... This is a great option to a regular fire escape, to avoid concerns of an intruder climbing up a bedroom window. Not a bad price and simple. I do think it's a SERIOUS deficit that one can't try it out (throw away after one use). All emergency equipment should have the option of a trail run!! ( Hope someone reads this and comes up with a similar product that allows a trial run)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product everyone homeowner should have I bought 2 of these for our bedrooms upstairs .. the ladder did have some rust on it and it says its good for only one use then you have to throw it out.. so i havent been able to test it out.. however it seems easy to use and well constructed and would recommend to anyone with 1 1/5 - 2 storey home!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I thought it would be Obviously (and thankfully!) haven't had to use it, and hoping we never do! But gives peace of mind to have one in each of our bedrooms just in case. It looks sturdy and I have confidence it would work for its intended purpose.

Does "one-time" use only mean use in an actual fire situation correct? You can still practice with it, right? Or once you deploy the ladder rungs, you cannot put the ladder rungs back?

Asked by: TS2021
“One-time use” is meant for emergencies only. You cannot test it out by deploying it. Like a parachute, there is no guarantee to put it back together properly and and know for certain it will deploy properly again if you do it yourself.

Does an escape ladder with 13ft length enough for a 2 stories house?

Asked by: LPhome
Yes. An average two story house has the windows about 12-15 feet up.

Does this ladder fit a 15'+ wide wall?

Our home has very thick walls. It appears that this ladder would not be able to be hooked over the window sill. Is there another model that would work?
Asked by: Anonymous
Thank you for your request. Unfortunately these ladders will only handle a maximum of 11 inches (27 cm) thick walls from the outside wall to the inside wall. We do not have any different supports, only a longer ladder (25 feet).

Is there a weight restriction on this product?

What is the maximum weight that this ladder will hold? And has anyone tested it for the maximum weight?
Asked by: Anonymous
The ladders have a maximum weight capacity of 1000 lbs. Meaning that more than one average adult can climb down at the same time. Just remember that once deployed, the ladder must be replaced as trying to put it back together cannot garantee proper deployment in an emergency (similar to parachutes, you cannot just put it back together unless you know exactly how to do it.)

How wide are the handles to put out the window? As the building is one of the old bricks downtown. Thanks

If it cannot fit because of wide widths of window frames due to oldness and brick what would you suggest it could hang onto to get out safely? Thanks Fire Ladders
Asked by: Anonymous
The handles on the ladder cannot fit on a ledge thicker (outside wall to inside wall) than 11 inches (28 cm). The minimum width of the window must be 16 inches (41 cm) . Building a support for it is not a good idea because it is hard to measure the load capacity of the support. It would likely fail under the stress of up to 900 lbs. (the ladders load capacity). You can review the link below for the ladder's data sheet on our website. http://www.kiddecanada.com/utcfs/ws-463/Assets/468095%20Ladder%20Datasheet.pdf

Are these really disposable after one use?

The first reviewer said there was rust on it!
Asked by: codydog
Yes, these are really disposable after one use. As stated in the warning part of the manual: THIS LADDER IS DESIGNED FOR ONE TIME USE ONLY AND SHOULD ONLY BE DEPLOYED IN THE EVENT OF A HOME FIRE EMERGENCY. DISCARD AFTER SINGLE USE. REPEAT USE OF THIS PRODUCT COULD RESULT IN SEVERE INJURY OR DEATH. As for the previous reviewer this ladder does come with a 5 year warranty and they should contact the manufacturer. You can view the manual for this ladder at http://www.kiddecanada.com/utcfs/ws-463/Assets/468095%20Ladder%20Manual.pdf. I hope this helps.
