Rated 5 out of 5 by from You can’t sleep through this alarm :) It works reeeeally well. Even the heaviest of sleepers can’t sleep through this alarm: it’s like being yanked out of a deep sleep and being plunked in front of a nightclub loudspeaker and laser show all at once.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The worst $1000 I've ever spent I have never written a bad review before, but I feel like other potential customers should know before making the same mistake as me. I bought 6 of these less than 2 years ago for my rental property, and it was all going well until the last couple of weeks. The tenant noticed that these alarms would set off intermittently with no actual activities. We have tried to test and see which one of these 6 are the issue, but it seems like all of them are defective. We even tried different locations (different houses!), thinking it's the environment, like how Kiddie suggested. These things costed me over $1000, and now they're all garbage within 2 years. Since I cannot return these, AND I also do not want replacements after looking at all the reviews, I HAVE TO EAT THIS COST. Unacceptable.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy Like others, I made an account for the sole purpose of warning others off this item. First off, I too had my 3 year old son woken up in a panic several times now between 9pm - 3am from these. It will happen and then not seem to have any issue for days or weeks and then happen again for no apparent reason. I suffered through that a few times hoping that it was a fluke and would end, but today we had a separate issue that has solidified for me that these are just overall awful. After testing one of these alarms it would not stop chirping and kept going off every few minutes so I would keep having to "hush" it. The alarms having all these issue are only a couple years old and the one that kept going off today was cleaned as directed and only started doing this after a test. Overall just the worst. On the other hand, we do have a different model Kidde alarm in our home that has been fine. So I have some hope that this company isn't completely hopeless.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don’t buy I’ve experienced every problem described below with my 7 alarms installed after renovation. I know 2 other people who have as well. Random alarms for no reason, usually 1-3am. One time it was 9pm and could not get it to stop for over an hour until I finally disabled it in frustration - hush wasn’t working. Electrician suggested it’s our furnace but last night it went off and our furnace was turned off for 18 hours. I tried cleaning them and it didn’t help. I’ve never left a product review until this product frustrated me so much for such an expensive price. I’d rate it 0 if that was an option

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garbage Just woke up to the lovely sounds of this alarm going off at 3:30 am for no absolute reason. this is the second time the alarm goes off. Just like a previous post this alarm has caused complete frustration and anxiety within my children. It is completely disorienting, especially when it’s going off and there is no actual fire and now you are figuring out why the heck this thing went off! I would NEVER recommend this product to anyone, they were actually suppose to send me a new alarm awhile ago because one had faulted and I have yet to receive it. i like another post don’t really ever write reviews so had to make an account to write this but well worth it to make sure that no one else spends as much money as we did on these awful alarms, especially because now I have to spend my day buying new alarms. Ugh

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful! Really really really awful!!! My electrician installed 7 of these in my house. Well over a thousand dollars!! I've replaced 2. When one goes off they all do. When I first encontered problems I eventually (after 3 weeks) isolated the problem to one. When I brought it back to the store they said they could replace this so long as I hadn't shut down the battery. Things have been fine to now. They are now going off again. I THINK I have isolated the problem to one. It was firing non stop. The only way to quiet them is through a hush mode (which didn't work for the one) or you you need to switch off the lithium battery which PERMANENTLY kills the machine. In this instance I had to. When I turned the know to kill the machine (which leaves me with $160 wasted!!) the thread stripped. I was then left to smash away the screw section to turn the unit off. Its now on the floor in pieces, my ears and eyes are destroyed (listening for the last half hour) and my dogs are rockin' a mild case of PTSD. I'm am really really upset with this purchase.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very disappointed I bought 2 alarms & installed these but did not even remove the seal because basement was still under construction but not sure what happened, within 9 months, there’s a error message for low battery! When I bought these, I was conveyed that it has 10 year long battery, The manual says that the alarms should be scrapped within 7 days of low battery messsage !! Must be a defective lot ?? Did it happen with some else ? Kidde customer service - Do you stand behind your products ?? Will never buy or recommend this products if No customer support is offered for these type of defects !

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Fire Department just here to disconnect As many other reviewers have mentioned, we had experienced several false alarms in the past year when NOTHING provoked it - no cooking; no dust...just bizarrely alarms would go off. But what happened tonight clinched this manufacturer as the absolute WORST: 9pm, two kids to get into bed, and alarms started going off and would NOT stop. Don't kidde yourself (pardon the pun) - these are much louder than older alarms, have a strobe light effect, and speak to other. We could not make them stop and had to call the Fire Department. Owing to the battery backup, disconnecting the fuse does nothing. You can hold down the button on one to hush it but it still communicates with the others, and it was a chase through the house to quiet them to no avail - they continued to set each other off for no reason. The firefighters in attendance said at least TWO of these were faulty and had to destroy them. Our new build home is one year old - this is absolutely unbelievable. We found ourselves standing out in the cold, and the Fire Dept had to install different smoke detectors before they could leave for the night. In their words, "they don't make them like they used to." DO NOT BUY THESE! They have awoken us at 3am for absolutely nothing in the past also. We cannot warn you enough that these are absolute garbage and our children are now completely traumatized and don't want to be left alone in their rooms. Thanks Kidde, for the anxiety and fear you've brought on in our children.

> clean the units every week with a can of compressed air Every week? Is that the same for all smoke detectors? Weird that is required so often. Such high maintenance is not very practical in most situations, esp rentals and places for old ppl. Why?

Asked by: Adrian
All alarms should be cleaned and tested to make sure dust and insects have not accumulated inside the detection chamber. In the case of using a compressed air can, a vacuum around the back could be sufficient as well. The reason for so much cleaning is they are electrical devices that create a bit of a static charge, thus attracting dust very easily. It's also part of the reason they have a limited lifespan. Testing only requires to press the test button. All outside smoke source is not recommended as the sensor could end up being fouled up with soot, debris and wax (candles), leaving you with an overly sensitive or non-functional sensor. As for rentals, the fire code requires tenants to perform those duties, including changing the battery if it gets low. The landlord is required to make sure the tenant is aware and does it as well as making sure the alarm(s) is/are present and sufficient for the premises.

Is there a version of this smoke detector that actually works properly? I need CO, Smoke, and strobe for the bedrooms here but every review is horrible for this model. I have been putting this off for a year because of horrible reviews and prices.

Asked by: Jonathan
Thank you for inquiring about the comments and reviews. Through investigations, we've identified that consumers and contractors need to understand how sensitive these alarms are if they are placed in the wrong location. They need to ensure they are not installed in locations near ceiling fans, returned/forced air vents, or any area in which dust or insects can get into the unit - dust from plaster walls can be in the vents of a house for years. Also, it is extremely important to clean the units every week with a can of compressed air which is all noted in the manual. Additionally, to meet building code requiring strobe lights, they do not need to be a part of the smoke / CO alarms, they can be standalone provided they are all hardwired together. A good location for a smoke alarms may not be the best for a strobe and Vice Versa.

Are these alarms compatible with The SM120X and CO120X relay modules?

Is this model hardwired with the 3 prongs in a triangular form? It would be a good idea to post picture of the underside of the alarm also.

Asked by: dougtheslug
All Kidde hardwired alarms use the same wiring harness. The only time you will need to change the harness(included with each alarm) is when changing from another brand.
