Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wireless interconnect provides additional safety I purchased these alarms because when one sounds off, all of them do. This is important to us in a house with four levels, and greatly increases the chances of hearing the alarm quickly, in time to respond. More expensive than other units, but worth it in my mind. Installation was a breeze, requiring no more than to select a random, unique setting of the DIP switches, and to use the same setting on all units. When tested, the system worked perfectly from the get-go.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Reliable but wish it had a remote hush feature. Always owned Kidde smoke detectors and this replaced the old one we had. The one thing I miss is that the old one had a remote hush that comes in handy when it is hard to reach the hush button on the unit itself. I really wish I could find one of those again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It works! Bought two of these, one for my basement and one for the main floor and interconnected them. The alarm detected smoke in the basement at 3.00am one morning and both the basement and main floor alarm sounded so happy to know that it works. Great option when you can't hard wire interconnected alarms. Would recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great solution Interconnected dire alarms are the new standard in homes in my area, and these are by far the cheapest and best solution out there. Very easy to set up and install

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wireless connection is great These smoke detectors are great. Having the ability to link all 5 in my house wirelessly has been great, and could literally be a life-saver in the future. Having one in my detached woodshop, where there is lots of machinery and flammable materials, has given me great peace of mind. Even within a single house it is a great feature because there could be times when you wouldn't hear a smoke detector 1 or 2 floors away. The link seems very reliable: I test them every few months and have always found that all 5 go off together, even the one in the detached woodshop that is about 50' away from the next nearest one. Sensitivity is great: not overly sensitive, but enough to notice any real amount of smoke. The only issue I have with these detectors is that they go through batteries quickly: they use 3 AA's, and they only last about 9 months.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good features Had to replace 2 of my alarms that aged out. I like the network feature but they are expensive.

Do I need an extra receiver to connect these together, or all alarms will connect between themselves?

Asked by: Vincent
These alarms will connect directly with one another provided you put in the same pin code in each and have them within 100 feet of one another inside your house.

Is there a way to tell which alarm was actually triggered so you know where the smoke (or false alarm) is coming from?

Asked by: grlnxrdr
The triggered alarm will have the rapidly flashing red LED and only that unit's Hush button will function. The other units will sound off but will not have the rapid flash of the red LED and when pressing the Hush button, there will be no reaction.

Can wireless be installed instead of wired to meet code?

I live in Manitoba. As part of my basement reno, the city is demanding interconnected smoke on all floors and bedrooms. Is the wireless version a suitable replacement to meet code? Is there a version that includes CO detector as well.
Asked by: Anonymous
Unfortunately no. If the code for your house requires interconnected, at current time, that means it must be hardwired. We do not currently have a wireless Co alarm. There are new models that attempt to resolve the issues that are coming out over the next few months but they are not compatible with this model as the technology used is different so as to meet the requirements. Not all municipalities and provinces will accept them at first beyond being stand alone alarms (they do meet ULC and CSA standards).

Is the wireless detection compatible with the Kiddie hard wired alarms?

I want to put the battery operated wireless alarm in the garage. Will the wireless system work to set off the Kiddie brand hardwired alarms with battery backup already installed in the house?
Asked by: Anonymous
We do not have a wireless to ahrwired alarm conenction as the American model has not been approved to Canadian standards. (ULC and CSA) However, smoke alamrs and CO alarms should never be installed in the garage. The only valid system that can be installed there is a heat detector like model HD135F or CF135W (available from electrical distributors). The temperature variations as well as constant exposure to CO and other chemicals will make the alarms either fail to sound or give false alarms continuously.

how far is the range that these should be spaced, 50'?

Asked by: Anonymous
A smoke alarm should be placed near the bedrooms and then at least one or more on every level of the home to ensure that you are alerted to a fire as soon as possible. If someone sleeps with the bedroom door closed, than an alarm should be placed in the bedroom as well. The range is 100 feet or more depending on the number of walls and floors the signal must go through. Remember to set the dipswitch on each alarm to the same code before installing the batteries in the units. Then push the test button of the first wireless alarm and it will sync the remaining wireless alarms if all the codes are the same. If all of your wireless alarms do not sound, then check to ensure that the codes are set properly. The green light flashing all the time could just mean that the unit has gone off before; please press the test button to reset the unit. I hope this helps.
