Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good and reliable quality. My old ones is supposed to expire in November so I replaced them with the new ones. Electrical wiring was performed when the house was built so it was easy to install.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product Easy to install and no false alarms so far. So far worth the money and I like the fact you don’t have to change for ten years.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Piece of junk I have numerous of these smoke detectors in my house. One night while I was sleeping alone in the house the alarm went off only to discover there was nothing in the house that set it off (no smoke, fire, etc, etc). Another time while just sitting on the couch they went off and again I found nothing that set it off. It also goes off far too much when I am cooking and forget to turn on the hood fan, but its not like I am burning anything. They are way too sensitive Unfortunately I am stuck with 9 of these smoke detectors. I call them the "boy who cries wolf smoke detectors", because the first thing that I think of when they go off its another false alarm. Just want you want in a smoke detector!

I bought the Kidde pro series model P12040CA and I'm having trouble finding the lithium Ultralife U9VL-J battery mentioned in the user guide. I live in Montreal QC.

Asked by: Helen
You will need to contact different retailers to identify who has the Ultralife battery in stockor who can speical order it. Regardless of which individual battery you use, including teh Ultralife, the battery should be changed every year regardless of how much strength it has. You need it to have enough ower to last a week without AC power and still alarm for a minimum of 4 hours.

How would one know when the battery should be replaced? How long does it last, ordinarily.

Asked by: supe
Your alarm's battery should be changed yearly regardless if it warns of low battery or not. The idea is that you want your alarm to be capable of lasting for a couple of weeks on battery only and still be able to sound an alarm for 4 hours (This is a ULC requirement in Canada for an alarm to be certified). Leaving the battery to the last moment before changing it can compromise this capability.

Do you have a smoke detector that can be wired to my home security system

Asked by: Anonymous
No. Our alarms are not designed for central alarm systems. Each is a standalone unit with some capable of communicating to other units of the same brand. We do have a hardwired relay for smoke signals and one for carbon monoxide signals that can be "normally open or normally closed" for outside devices but if they are used to communicate with a central system, it is considered an unmonitored addition with the central panel not knowing if the units are even present, damage or false alarming, including chirps for low batteries. We do not recommend doing this.

Can this alarm replace my current KN-COSM-ICA Kidde brand one? My current one seems to be dying. Thanks

Asked by: Anonymous
The model you are looking for is 900-0119. This model (PPE120CA) is a photoelectric smoke alarm only. your old one is a combination ionization/carbon monoxide alarm. Although the wiring harness will work (we only have the one harness for all models).

which hardwire fire alarm is compatible with Firex G-6 ?

Asked by: Anonymous
FiIreX no longer exists in Canada and the wiring harness is not compatible with Kidde alarms. However,if you have FireXsmoke alarms that are less than 10 years old and add in a Kidde hardwired alarm (any hardwired model), they will likely work well together though they were not designed to work together originally. We recommend you upgrade to an alarm with battery back-up, unlike the G-6 because with the G-6, during power failures, you do not have a working alarm.

Is this alarm compatible with an American Sensor SA 360? I have 5 of the SA 360 Alarms in my home and need to change 3 of them to be compliant.

Asked by: Anonymous
You should not mix alarms from different companies. Although some have been shown to work together, they were never built to be compatible - which could lead to damage or interference to any and all alarms. You will need to get alarms either from the same company or replace all for a different one.
