I have to replace my Firex G6 fire alarm, is this one compatible? Is there an adapter to plug in my existing wiring harness?

Asked by: dbarry_13
You should consider changing all of your alarms to a single brand. The different manufacturers do not make the alarms to work together - though some have managed, they can also damage one another. In terms of immediate replacement, you will need to change the bracket and find an electrical distributor who can get the adaptor - few do. It would be easier to just install the harness that comes with the alarm.

where do I connect the red wire to interconnect my 3 detectors?

Asked by: Anonymous
The red wire is to be connected directly to the other red wires of each alarm and nothing else. Aside from the black and red wires for power, a third one must run from alarm to alarm for it to work AND must not under any circumstance touch anything else as it can cause the alarms to short and/or be permanently damaged. If you are unsure about the set up, please consider hiring an electrician.

are hardwired & battery backup compatible

Asked by: Anonymous
It depends on what you mean by compatible. All hardwired Kidde alarms are compatible with one another, yes. They are not, however, compatible with other brands of alarms. Though some have successfully worked together, they were not manufactured to work together so you could end up damaging alarms instead of having them cooperate. The best course of action is to use all of one brand of alarmsand replacing all if you cannot get just the one you need.Keep in mind that all alarms have to be replaced after 10 years (CO alarms can be 5, 7 or the new Kidde with 10 years).

Will this unit also be triggered by the 120volt combo unit by Kidde (KN-COSM-IBCA)

Asked by: Anonymous
Any Kidde smoke alarm that is hardwired and interconnected can trigger all other smoke alarms on the same interconnect wire. Just as, all Kidde CO alarms will trigger all other CO alarms on the same interconnect wire. A CO alarm will not trigger a smoke alarm on the same interconnect wire.

Will this unit work with a light outlet that is on the same circuit?

Asked by: Anonymous
Hardwired interconnected smoke alarms should be installed on their own separate circuit. They must not be on a switched circuit where the power can be turned on and off like a light switch.

where do i plug in the interconector wire? Is it with the neutral or the black feed wire from the ceilling?

when it come to a three wire smoke detector I have a neutral white to neutral white from ceiling then a black feed line to the black power from the ceiling now where do I attach the interconector from the smoke detector.? To the white neutral or the black power?
Asked by: Anonymous
It is very important to read the manual specially the wiring section of the manual when installing this alarm. However to give you a quick advice on the wiring. You need to ensure that 3 Wires are coming out of the ceiling. If there are only 2 (white and Black), then attach the White to White and Black to Black. As for the Red – Do NOTHING – Connecting the red to white or Black will cause the alarm extreme damage Hope this helps.
