Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product with excellent warranty I had two of these smoke alarms dated 2010 that came with my house. A month ago one of them gave a false alarm early in the morning and panicked the whole house. I contacted Kidde and they responded by saying it was likely dust, dirt or an insect that caused the alarm. It may even have been a low battery. But what was really nice about Kidde was the fact they sent me two new smoke alarms at no cost even though mine were two years past warranty. Any company that gives this type of support clearly believes in their product. I would never have an issue buying more alarms from kidde. The thing to remember is to vacuum these alarm at least twice a year and to replace the battery yearly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Kidde smoke alarm you can get! I am an owner of 2 of this Kidde smoke alarms, so far I am pretty happy with the 2 alarms that I have installed in my home. My favorite feature about this alarm is the interconnection, when my upstairs or downstairs alarm goes off, they both sound the alarm, but which is sounding? When you look at the alarms, the one sounding is the one flashing the red light. When you are sleeping at night, gotta tell you that you cannot miss the alarm because of its volume, and the best feature is cooking, when you are cooking, you feel more confident because this alarm is not a cooking alarm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Now we're talking! This is what you call a smoke alarm! I had an ionization technology smoke detector in my home for 10 years, and it literally ruined our lives every time we turned on our stove. Since we had this guy, our lives was peaceful, calm and relaxed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Smoke Alarm! Bought this one after a recommendation to install a photoelectric smoke alarm just outside our kitchen. The ionization type was giving many false alarms and nuisance alarms after 7-8 years every time we'd use the oven without even burning anything. Was simple to connect - just needed to plug it into the old base with the quick connect cable.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Piece of junk I have numerous of these smoke detectors in my house. One night while I was sleeping alone in the house the alarm went off only to discover there was nothing in the house that set it off (no smoke, fire, etc, etc). Another time while just sitting on the couch they went off and again I found nothing that set it off. It also goes off far too much when I am cooking and forget to turn on the hood fan, but its not like I am burning anything. They are way too sensitive Unfortunately I am stuck with 9 of these smoke detectors. I call them the "boy who cries wolf smoke detectors", because the first thing that I think of when they go off its another false alarm. Just want you want in a smoke detector!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent replacement for older smoke alarms Purchased 2 units online as replacements for existing aged smoke alarms. Old units removed and new ones installed in less than 20 minutes, no more nuisance alarms due to opening the oven door. Old units did not have battery backup so I'm pleased to have this new feature as hydro intermittently goes out in this area. Pleased with units so far, home delivery was fast!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great smoke alarm! Everyone should have at least 2 smoke alarms in their home. This one is great because it only runs on batteries as a back-up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality products I bought two of these alarms online. The instruction is easy to follow and installation is just as easy. No need to worry about batteries in next few years. BTW, the delivery is FAST!

I bought the Kidde pro series model P12040CA and I'm having trouble finding the lithium Ultralife U9VL-J battery mentioned in the user guide. I live in Montreal QC.

Asked by: Helen
Hello Helen, You can use Duracell or Energizer alkaline. As for the ultralife battery, unfortunately, we don't have access to retailers stock.

Is a photoelectric alarm better in the kitchen—does it prevent false alarms from a hot oven?

Asked by: andy
Heat does not trigger a "smoke" detector , smoke does . A hot oven would have to be burning food or food spills . Either type of "smoke" detector will work , and a photoelectric type sometimes senses smouldering moments sooner .

Is the PPE120CA quick connect compatible with an i12020 as a replacement?

Asked by: Rubycat
All Kidde hardwired alarms are compatible with one anotehr and come with a new one if needed. During installation of the new unit, ensure the alarm functions on the battery alone and on the hardwire connection alone.

Do you have a smoke detector that can be wired to my home security system

Asked by: Anonymous
No. Our alarms are not designed for central alarm systems. Each is a standalone unit with some capable of communicating to other units of the same brand. We do have a hardwired relay for smoke signals and one for carbon monoxide signals that can be "normally open or normally closed" for outside devices but if they are used to communicate with a central system, it is considered an unmonitored addition with the central panel not knowing if the units are even present, damage or false alarming, including chirps for low batteries. We do not recommend doing this.

Can this alarm replace my current KN-COSM-ICA Kidde brand one? My current one seems to be dying. Thanks

Asked by: Anonymous
The model you are looking for is 900-0119. This model (PPE120CA) is a photoelectric smoke alarm only. your old one is a combination ionization/carbon monoxide alarm. Although the wiring harness will work (we only have the one harness for all models).

can I use this to replace a Firex G-6 hardwire?

Asked by: Anonymous
You will have to change the wiring harness and the mounting plate but it will not be compatible with a new G-6 smoke alarm. I hope this helps.
