Rated 5 out of 5 by from House hasn't burned down yet. It's a CO and smoke detector. Seems to be working. Test button works. I've not started any indoor fires to see if it works in real-world conditions.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Piece of garbage Purchased this 10 year worry free alarm on Dec 22, 2014 and it stopped working on Dec 21, 2018. The alarm simply started going off for no reason at odd times in my basement apartment. After three days of frustration I turned it off and it got the hammer treatment (it was Christmas eve). Did I try and vacuum it? Yes! Try and use compressed air? Yes Model was P3010L-CO-CA and manufacture date was 2014 Oct 24. Hope they've fixed the issue with these now but I'd give this zero stars if I could.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from absolute garbage where to start, how about the fact that even the mounting plate is absolute garbage, how could they screw up something this basic?, it goes pretty much downhill from there

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No support for the product I bought 4 units. Called technical support to get answers regarding this product and was on hold for over an hour.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Just purchased I have just purchased two of these and installed one of them; I will return the other one. I decided to keep one to see how it works. I read the negative reviews here but I need to see for myself if they were accurate. However, I already have a few complaints myself: a) The label does not say anything about the bracket type, or options to hook the unit up to the 120 V household electricity. If I had known that it runs on battery only then I probably would not have chosen it. Besides, the Homedepot associate who assisted me with the purchase was positive that the battery is just for backup power. b) After unpacking the item I found out that it's single-use. Seriously, for $60? Or maybe not. There is a "Turn off" switch in the back with a warning that reads "permanently". I expected to be able to turn it off, if it starts beeping, then turn it back on later. The Hush button, which seems to be the same as the Test button, supposedly allows the user to "silence" the unit for about 9 minutes. Can't test that, though, because I am afraid that I might have to disable the unit permanently if it really goes off. c) I ran the startup test, as per instructions. Apparently, all went well and the unit should now be acrtive. But there is a LED on the front that stays off. I expected it to light up green. I mean, all other smoke/CO detectors in my house have a front LED that goes green when in standby; this one doesn't. The information on the front reads "GREEN - STANDBY", so it should be green. Is the device activated and in standby mode? It's very confusing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Totally unsatisfied Just a few months after purchase started giving false alarms, including in the middle of the night. Very annoying. The only way to silence it is to disable it which means it can't be used anymore. It has to be trashed. Money down the drain.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from AVOID THIS BRAND My family has now bought 4 of these units (2 for my home and 2 for my Mom's). They were bought in June 2016. So far 3 of the 4 alarms have malfunctioned and had to be replaced. The alarm goes off for no reason - at any time of the day. As a pet owner I have arrived home twice in the last month to the alarm going off and have had 2 very sick dogs from the stress this caused. I will be replacing these units today with a different company's product. I have seen a few recalls shared on social media for KIDDIE products, however this model is not one of them yet. For the safety and sanity of your family please avoid this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Brutal I bought three - the one on the top floor goes off constantly (I'm shopping right now to replace). I thought it was just defective (hushing didn't work, neither did the permanent shut off!) so I exchanged it. Running into the same issue second time around GRRR. It doesn't like something about the air upstairs, it's AWFULLY finicky. I'll keep the other two but will never buy this again.

wil55: I am confused about these so called 2 in 1 alarms. Smoke and heat rise carbon monoxide heavy gas stays close to floor. How is it possible for 1 detector to check both when they are at different levels in the room?

Asked by: 10woody55
CO alarms do not rely on it rising or sinking (it actually weights 97% that of air). CO detection works by simulation the absorption rate into the human body. So exposures to low levels over a long period of time can be as dangerous as high levels in minutes. If you have a single Co alarm in your house, it should be located outside the main bedroom area so as to make sure it is audible when sleeping. NEVER install an alarm in the furnace room, next to a fire place or the garage.

I currently have an interconnectable KN-COSM-IBCA (Smoke and Carbon Detector), which has to be replaced. Appears that this model isnt available. The alarm has a 3 pin connection in a triangular formation. What is the new replacement for this old alarm.

Asked by: lsvas
The model number to look for in stores is 900-0119. it looks different now as we moved the battery chamber to the front. Alternatively, any of our hardwired alarms will be able to replace it in terms of the wiring harness. We use the same for all of them.

3 beeps but hush button did not work

Our p3010L-co-ca went off at 4 in the morning. It was 3 beeps followed by 1 second pause. The instructions say this is a smoke alarm beeping pattern but the hush button did not work. We had to deactivate the alarm permanently with a screwdriver to avoid waking up our baby. Will Kidde supply us with a new detector to replace the malfunctioning one that is ruined?

There are a couple of reasons for an alarm to sound as you have described: Smoke Alarm Sensing Chamber May be Dirty NOTE: Dust and insects can collect in the sensing chamber of the alarm. An accumulation of dust in the sensing chamber can cause the unit to chirp. It is good practice to clean the smoke alarm when you change the battery. Static electricity from the ac quick connector attracts dust and can cause false alarms. To clean your smoke alarm, perform the following steps: 1. a) On ceiling mounted units, remove your alarm from the mounting bracket. b) For plug-in units, simply remove it from the wall receptacle. 2. Clean the interior of your alarm (sensing chamber) by using compressed air or a vacuum cleaner hose and blowing or vacuuming through the openings around the perimeter of the alarm. 3. Clean the outside of the alarm by wiping it down with a damp cloth. 4. After cleaning, reinstall your alarm, verify the green LED is on and test your alarm by using the Test button. (NEVER test an alarm using actual smoke or CO) ________________________________________ Environmental Conditions Refer to the following environmental conditions for possible solutions to an alarm’s random chirping: • Humidity, steam and condensation Causes of condensation are: o Extreme or rapid temperatures changes. (as little as 3 degrees Celsius in a few minutes) o High ambient humidity. o Unit being installed in an un-insulated electrical box mounted on a ceiling beneath an attic. If this condition exists you will want to move the alarm or prevent rapid changes using the thermostat/air conditioner. View the correct alarm placement in your user's manual. • Excess airflow o Check to see if there is a cooling/heating register, a ceiling fan or an open window within 3 feet of the alarm. If there is, move the alarm away from the source of the increased airflow. If you are still having issues, please call the Kidde hotline at 1-800-880-6788

Replacing another Kidde alarm

Currently have a KN-COSM-ICA (Smoke and Carbon Detector, 120VAC), which has reached its 10 years. Connector is a 3 pins in a triangular formation. Will I need any adaptors etc. to replace with another Kidde alarm?
Asked by: Anonymous
That alarm had a 7 year lifespan, not 10, only 2014 models of that alarm have 10 years. Model 900-0119 is the one to use in your case and all Kidde hardwired alarms use the same wiring harness.

is this product compatible with KN-COSM-iB

Asked by: Anonymous
No it is not. Model P3010L-CO-CA is a battery only alarm. Model 900-0119 (KN-COSM-IBCA) is hardwired with a battery back-up. Building code requires all hardwired alarms to be replaced with a hardwired alarm. Battery only alarms are not permitted other than as additional equipment.

Kidde smoke detectors inner changeable

900-0133
Asked by: Anonymous
You can get the 900-0133 from electrical distributors but you are much better off getting model 900-0119 or 900-0213. Both use the same wiring harness as the 900-0133 but they have a battery back up so during power failures, you would still have a working alarm. All of our hardwired alarms are compatible with one another and all but the Silhouette series use the same wiring harness. (Silhouette series alarms are flush to the ceiling and walls, thus must be installed by electricians inside electrical boxes).
