Initially was going to go with Jenn Air however my research revealed that the Kitchenaid is identical to the Jenn Air yet $700 cheaper. I downloaded both manuals and they were the same. Actually, the manuals that came with the cooktop stated Jenn Air on them. Typically, Jenn Air is high-end so I'm convinced that this is a high quality item at a great price. Additionally, the down draft is extremely efficient, medium speed does the job 95% most of the time. I'm extremely satisfied!!

There aren't too many 36" downdraft cooktops to choose from and this was almost identical to the Jenn Air and we were told the same manufacturer. We read a lot of the reviews and appreciate them. We had a lot of appliances to buy and had to weigh the investment return should we sell the home to move to the beach condo. The construction is complete, the dust has settled and Christmas dinner was a winner for 10. So far my wife is very happy with the 5 burners, the fan, the flames (especially the fifth big flame burner), the knobs and the beauty of the the Kitchen Aid compared to the old cooktop of course. Be careful to replace the lift off burner caps to the same burners after cleaning or the flames may be uneven or not ignite properly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Has a high end look [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I finally gave in and replaced my old cooktop. Since my old cooktop had a downdraft vent, my choices were more limited. This cooktop is really nice! The five burners is an upgrade for me from four. Even though the granite counter had to be cut slightly to accommodate the size, it was well worth it. The cooktop is very easy to clean. And the vent cavity is large enough to be able to easily clean. Another nice feature is the solid knobs which have a very high quality feel. The smallest burner has an interchangeable part to allow low heating of chocolate sauce dr similar ingredients which are easy to burn.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Kichenaid 36" Gas Cooktop w/downdraft I searched for a cooktop with a built-in downdraft system for months. Of all the cooktops I reasearched this particular KitchenAid was declared the best by many industry experts. After installing it and using it for a month, I can affirm the claims. It's functional, extremely well designed and built, and most importantly the downdraft system is amazing. It pulls the steam vapor and odors out of the kitchen really well. I'm very pleased!!

It was easy to install and everything has been functioning as expected. The downdraft vent has three speeds and is fairly quite, even at the top speed. It pulls in most of the smoke and steam, much better than our old electric Jenn-aire cooktop did. The only issue was with the downdraft vent filter. It did not fit all the way across the vent opening and the instructions were not explicit enough to indicate if that was how it was supposed to be. When I called Kitchenaid, neither the sales dept. or the technical/parts dept. were able to give guidance on how the filter was supposed to fit. They sent me a new filter, but it was the same size as the one that came with the cooktop. Both filters are 1" shorter that the blower intake opening. None the less, I think this is a great cooktop and plan on updating the rest of the kitchen with Kitchenaid appliances.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Addition for Our Recent Kitchen Remodel [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We are replacing the original cook top in our kitchen (which was a 4 burner electric Jenn Air) due to a recent kitchen renovation. Because of the reno, we selected this 5 burner downdraft which also meant changing from electric to gas as the original 4 burner was electric. We LOVE our new gas cook top. The downdraft has 3 speeds which is so nice having the selection of different speeds. There was very little transition from changing from electric to gas cooking. Cooking is fun again. Very happy with our purchase. Cleanup is easy and cook top works great. We did lots of research before making our selection and this is better than we anticipated. It's a win-win for us on this cooktop.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from BarbJoe [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The unit works just as suggested, the 5th burner (oversized) is great for large pots and it's been used multiple times since our purchase. The only issue we have with the cooktop is the lack of a good solution for cleaning the surface. An SOS pad was needed to remove some stain from a burn (near the burner itself) so not really visible, however we are aware that this is not the recommended solution. We'll overflow a pot at some point and while we'll get after the cleaning process quickly I'm still anticipating some staining that we'll not be able to remove without a more stringent solution.

I have always had Jenn Air or Kitchenaid in my Kitchen so downdraft was easy. Although the exhaust was a little different it was an easy fix with flexible vent pipe and clamps. We converted from electric to gas. I absolutely love it!!! I wish I had done it years ago. The stainless steel is easy to clean because it has some sort of coating that doesn't seem to smear. Although the burners are set up to do different things I mostly use the large chef burner. It boils things very quickly. I use the left two for my griddle. It's a very flexible cook top and I could not be happier. You will not be disappointed.

have an existing kitchenaid electric 36 with down draft, is the size of the unit the same for both gas and electric?
Asked by: tony
Hi Tony, to determine if the measurements of the gas will fit in your current cutouts we would recommend reviewing the installation instructions for the gas unit for the proper dimensions. We hope this helps.
