Instructions were spot on and installation was straight forward - it is a two person job as the base is heavy. Perfectly cast and square making the tile installation a lot easier.

Can someone please clarify the instruction steps 3 through 6 on whether this pan can be installed...

Can someone please clarify the instruction steps 3 through 6 on whether this pan can be installed "mortar-less"? Step 3 implies that if the pan is level and plumb you don't do steps 5 and 6. Do you still do step 4? Step 4 makes no sense as floor-leveling compound cannot be "mounded." I'm interested in buying this pan but this issue is holding me up.

No slip resistance surface but it is not bad. Maybe question it if used by young children or elderly but for the most part not a big issue.

2 5/16" . I went with a Dreamline Encore semi-frameless that required only 2 1/4" threshold.

Yes and no. Although it has tiling flanges you do NOT screw those flanges to the wall and do not install your backerboard to just above the flange. This particular unit recommends building your studs out/installing furring strips so that they are flush with the inside of the tile flange (this is all in their instructions). Then your backerboard/Cement board/etc is actuall installed to hang OVER TOP of the flange to just 1/4" off of the shower base itself. Then tile over the backerboard and tile to 1/8" above the base, running silicone for water proofing underneath.

Although i cant answer that question directly, I can tell you this: The doors frameless and semi-frameless doors I have used in the last couple of years rely in pure silicone to attached the framing to the base. For most of those, including this Kohler Ballast I just completed installing, I used GE Kitchen and Bath, clear, Advanced Silicone GE Stock number GESIL2KB CLR Model number GE5040. I did put 2 screws into this base to secure a "guide" unit on the threshold . I drilled a pilot hole through the aluminum threshold into the base (mine was 1/8"), put silicone in the holes for some water protection before screwing them in. Hope that helps.

From what Ive researched, an important often overlooked piece of data is that this Kohler Shower base threshold width (the part the door base would rest on), measures 2 5/16 inches wide. The Levity doors I looked at require a minimum of 2 1/2 inches so make sure you check those measurements before purchasing any door with this base. Also from Kohler's install docs: There must be at least 2-1/2″ (64 mm) of flat surface on the shower base/bath ledge and walls. Walls must be within 3/8″ (10 mm) of plumb. The shower base/bath ledge must be level between the walls. I"m looking at https://www.homedepot.com/p/DreamLine-Encore-56-to-60-in-x-76-in-Semi-Frameless-Sliding-Shower-Door-in-Brushed-Nickel-SHDR-1660760-04/206939890 that requires 2 1/4" minimum.....tight, but within specs.
