When I called about this , I was told that I could get this at my local Homedepot store. But it was not available...would take another 2 weeks for delivery. This was very inconvienent...had to reschedule the plumber and settle for something else.

Valve?

What is the correct valve I need for this set? I thought the valve was included...but it is not, so can you please tell me what I need in order to install this set in my shower? Thanks!

Thank you for your inquiry. We included links to product pages with compatible valves below. The first valve is the simplest and least expensive (model K-304-K-NA), followed by a valve that has "screwdriver stops" that allow you to turn the water off at the valve instead of to the room (K-304-KS-NA), with the final valve (K-2971-KS) being one of our latest that provides greater water flow (at least through the tub spout, but flow rate through showerhead will remain the same), has the screwdriver stops, features a redesigned pressure balance module to provide superior resistance to mineral deposits and aggressive water conditions, and offers simplified installation and maintenance.

does this need a diverter valve to switch between the tub faucet and shower head?

Hi KKJJ, you do not need a diverter valve to make the switch between the tub and the shower. However you will need a rough in valve depending upon your installation, eg: using copper, threaded etc. The valve is the K-304 series. Your plumber will advise you as to which rough in value is needed to install.

Is there a recommended alternate version for NY & CA? Is it only the showerhead that is banned (handle & tub-filler ok?)

Hello, my name is Brenda with Kohler Customer Service. I am happy to assist you with your shower question. Effective July 1, 2016, all showering product sold in California must flow at 2.0gpm or lower. The model T10582-4-SN showerhead has a flow rate of 2.5gpm. Kohler does offer model TLS10582-4-SN which is the same trim kit, but does not include the shower head. The model 10548-SN is a 1.75gpm showerhead to work with this trim and meets the California requirements. Please work with your local Home Depot for pricing and availability on this product. Where do i purchase the valve for this shower? How do I know which is the correct valve?

Thank you for your inquiry. There are 3 possible Kohler pressure balancing valves that fit with the Bancroft T10582-4-BN. Please see the Kohler 304-KS-NA (with screw stops) , 304-K-NA (no stops), or the 2971-KS-NA (high flow with stops). Please see your local Home Depot store for ordering information.
