However, the hardware sent with it was not correct (the bumper tabs enclosed fit a different model) and the seat is made like garbage. I had to lift up one of the screw covers to re-tighten one of the screws and it broke off in my hand. The seat hadn't been installed for more than two minutes at the time. FYI, this is the THIRD seat I've had to replace on this toilet. The first developed a crack in the seat, the second had one of the hinges wear down until it couldn't hold the seat in place. It's all due to poor design and the use of cheap, flimsy plastic. I'll never buy another Kohler toilet again.

The first time around it lasted about 6 months. After a while the seat stopped "magically" going down by itself. It became harder and harder to push the seat down until it finally broke at the hinge. I thought perhaps it was a fluke so we purchased the same product again. I couldn't accept so a glaring design flaw from such an innovative product. This time however, it lasted about 4 months with the exact same results. Save your time, money and frustration and get a conventional seat that will not need to be installed every few months!

The fit was nice and installation a breeze. I noticed an indentation across one whole side of the seat right out of the box, like a seam where there should be none. Briefly wondered if this would be a problem down the road; I was right! The other day I sat on it and sure enough, with a loud Craaack, it split open. I reported the obvious defect and the Crack to Kohler; they said because it's out of warranty, the only thing they would do is sell me another one at 50%! Well, they just lost a good customer. This poor customer service is why there are so many other manufacturers on the market.

There was a very annoying squeak coming from the spring when just the top lid was closing at first but it seemed to get better with more use. You would think $40 would buy a good quality toilet seat but the quality of the plastic feels very cheap and is not comfortable to sit on for any period of time. The quick release feature is nice for cleaning but I wonder how long the plastic clips that hold it in place will last. If you just want a basic seat that the kids can't slam shut, then this is the one for you. If you want a comfortable seat, look elsewhere.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice but .... This tolilet seat construction is very good and I like the fact that the lid closes slowly and it was very easy to install. HOWEVER, when the seat is lifted up by my son to use, the whole seat pops loose due to the quick release feature and I have to keep putting the seat back in place. If you do not LIFT UP the toilet seat its fine, but once it is lifted up, the seat comes off !!! This is very annoying. I have tried tightening the screws but this does not help. I wish I had purchased a seat without the quick release feature.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Seat cracked in 2 months This was a replacement for a cracked seat when I bought my house. It was difficult to install because I had a Kohler toilet that is sealed. There was no way to get at the nuts under to unscrew and when I finally removed the old seat, I had to buy pressure washers to install. A few trips to home depot later I was up and running. I weigh 165lbs and thought the previous owner must have had some girth to crack the plastic on the old seat. Turns out it's just a faulty product. My toilet seat cracked within 2 months. I travel a lot so only have used the toilet a few times. I know it's not from dropping the lid as it has the soft touch drop and my backside isn't that powerful. Unfortunately I have to get another one to replace it or switch the entire toilet. Common man!

Although some reviewers mentioned problems with the parts attaching the seat to the toilet, I purchased the item in hopes that my desire to color match the seat to my Kohler toilet would not cause a similar bad result. No such luck. One of the nuts and bolts was defective out of the box making it impossible to firmly attach the seat to the toilet. It moves every time you sit down. Obviously Kohler has not resolved their design problem and/ or quality control issue. It would seem that the Kohler people should be able to resolve the issue. In the mean time they are losing a lot of credibility as a quality manufacturer worthy of their premium pricing.

This review is related to the same product that I purchased two years ago that the current purchase replaced because the initial one cracked. While I love the features of this product, a toilet seat should last more than two years. We'll see how this new one and the other two that I purchased a while back (all from Home Depot) for two of my other bathrooms hold up. Unless performing some sort of gymnastics or using a seat for a step;ping stool, a toilet seat should never break!

If by hinge you mean the 2 bracket that are fasten to the toilet, they are plastic. The entire assembly is plastic but very sturdy and heavy plastic.
