The hinge is plastic but seems adequate and is not subjected to torsional forces that would cause it to fail. My only regret is the limited color choices since I was trying to match a 35 year old grey Kohler toilet and this seat is a much lighter gray. I would like to see better demonstration of color samples on the Kohler website and, of course, would have preferred that a matching color to their old model would have been available, but I am satisfied with the comfort and integrity of this product. It is not available with the self closing hinge.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It fits perfectly in replacing a 27 years old one. I bought it to replace a broken one in my toilet. It fits perfectly on my 27 years old toilet. Shopping online gave me a prize comparison. Many local plumbing stores do not carry such color option and still have to order it from manufacture. With Home Depot I can pick it up easily from my local store without paying any shipping charge, and it is cheaper than all local stores. Since I am replacing an identical one with broken plastic support pads on the seat, I am not sure the durability of it.

The enamel covering has worn off in areas and the wood is visible, very cheap toilet seat. Didn't even last 2 full years of use. Piece of junk!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good quallty product The last time I had to buy a replacement toilet seat I went with another brand because it had metal hinges which I liked because they would be stronger. But the paint on that seat wore off quickly and the seat and hinges became discolored. I realized the Kohler was the better quality product and have now purchased two of these as replacements. The first Kohler I replaced that had plastic hinges did last 12 years, not bad when I look back at it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from plastic screws never tighten correctly plastic hinges never work on these seats. specifically got the seat from this site to match the model toilet i have because anything "off the shelf" never works. Well, neither does this one. one side always loosens and the covers always pop open. I had to mix and match metal screws from the seat I was tossing out. this was the same problem with the seat that came with the toilet when I ordered them from an actual supplier back in 2013. Tried 2 seats in between and tossed them both so I went back to the authentic Kohler provided product - still doesn't stay in place. nothing has changed.

The two with this model are cracking, even though one is in a bathroom that we don't use a lot. The nails are also rusting. The peeling paint looks like the seat is dirty, with bodily excretions when the toilet is clean, just splitting. Buy if you like the look of a dirty toilet seat and/or like replacing seats often

I could find them on line but was never sure if the color would be right. Finally I ordered one from Home Depot with the condition I did not have to accept if I wasn't satisfied. Since I lived almost 50 miles from the nearest Home Depot I wasn't too excited about driving over then having to bring it back. I picked up my product and opened it to look at the color. Ummmmmm it looked pretty good. Got it home and it was a perfect match. Better really than the original when we built the home. Thank you Hope Depot.
