Rated 1 out of 5 by from Self prpelled drive belt comes off. Poor customer service. After one year the drive belt came off and it is impossible to reinstall the belt without removing the belt covers. I called customer service and asked to get the instructions for replacing the belt. They would not tell me or send the manual. They said the dealer would have to inspect the machine to tell if warranty was applicable. The dealer said the belt was worn and replaced it. This occurred near end of the season. Next spring the new belt came off after only a few hours. I removed the belt covers, disconnected the control cable in order to turn what is a differential gear and removed the belt cover from it which required the use of three different security screw heads. It was a simple matter to slide the belt on then. The transmission consists of a pulley which you push against the belt with the control arm. The tighter you make the belt the greater the speed. I believe this is a design flaw because somehow in going over a rough spot or incline the engine must be pulling the belt off. If you had to have a dealer put the belt back very often a person might as well get a different mower. There is an ambiguity between the mower manual and the engine manual concerning checking the oil .The mower manual only says to insert the dip stick into the oil filler neck but DO NOT screw it in. The engine manual makes a distinction between the 1/4 turn style cap where the dipstick is pushed in all the way and turned a 1/4 turn and the screw type cap where you DO NOT screw the cap into the tube. A person referring to the mower manual with a 1/4 style might believe he should not push it in all the way and over fill the engine with possible engine damage. In the past some have asked how to buy the Kohler spark plug part number 14 132 06-S or 12 132 02-S. I believe there is no Kohler made spark plug and these are just their stock numbers for Champion 8815 and Champion RC12YC spark plugs.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Okay for flat lawn There have been times when I do not mow for 4 weeks. You have to keep that in mind with my review. User error may contribute to some of my concerns. The lot is about 1/3 of an acre. It takes me 60-90 minutes to finish the mowing. I needed a new lawn mower last Fall and having used a pure push-mower in the past I knew I wanted a self-propelled. When I got to Home Depot I was looking at the Toro version (22") and the Lawn Boy version (20"). The Lawn Boy was $100 cheaper and still self-propelled. "Great deal!," I said. I was a little concerned about "sens-a-speed." It sounded a little gimmicky to me and I like to be able to control the throttle. But the warranty and price persuaded me. When my grass is on the long/deep side or on a slope (gentle, not 45 degrees or anything) I am supplying 70-90% of the locomotion, not the mower. I retrospect, I should have bought another mower. However, one year in, this Lawn Boy is doing the job. I have to work a little harder than I would like, but if your lawn is pretty flat and you mow on-time, every time I think it would work out. If you are like me and mow every 2 - 4 weeks, and you lawn has some grade I suggest looking for a standard multi-speed mower. That is what I'm getting next time (unless I get a lawn tractor). We all have dreams, right?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Self propelled didn't work. I returned the mower after opening the box and finding out that the self propelled function didn't work. Spent the extra money to buy a Honda mower and I couldn't be happier with it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad Design Drive Belt Falls Off Bad Design I bought this mower to use where my 50” zero turn mower can’t reach. I have had the Lawn Boy for less than a year and have used it very few times. As stated by two others reviewers the drive belt slips off. By design it is almost impossible for you to put the belt back on without sending it out for repair. I called Lawn Boy and they said it my problem since I was passed ninety days. They were very condescending that I should take better care of the mower. They acted that it was my fault the drive belt won’t stay on. Buy something else!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great I am not a big fan of the hard plastic wheels, but that is its only fault. It starts right up and does a great job cutting.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from works fine The best part of this mower for me is the easy pull start. It's just a nice smooth motion instead of the hard yank. The bad part is that it's a very heavy machine so it's really hard to pull it backward. Here there's a lot of sand and so it sinks easily in areas that are sparse. Otherwise, it seems to work great and I'm very happy with it. The plastic wheels don't seem to be a problem, so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good smaller rear wheel drive mower Bought for my daughter to mow her smaller size lawn. So far so good. She was able to unpack and set up by herself. Light enough to get out of box without help. Added the oil and fresh gas and it started and ran well. Good size for her house and easy for her to manuver arround the yard. She likes it. Price was $40 off as well. Overall very satisfied.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great mower. Starts easily with a few pulls. Very easy to push and I love the sense a speed. So far not troubles but I have only used it twice. The only problem I had was the bagger was damaged in shipping but they came out and fixed it for me.
