The part that goes inside the electrical box is very wide, and I had a hard time fitting it in the metal boxes that were in the wall when this place was built in the late sixty's. The newer plastic boxes should be no problem. The USB C slot will charge my wife's laptop overnight, BUT will not charge it while she is using it. It can't keep up. Been in the wall for about 6 weeks.

A couple of notes from my install - because of the size of this outlet and the number of wires in my box, had to use the push in method as described in the instructions. It pretty much filled up my outlet box, but did not have any issues. Another thing to note is that the USB Type C outlet requires a male Type C plug to use. This means to charge my phone required purchasing a USB charging cable with Type C male ends on both ends of the cable. The USB outlets work great with my Samsung devices.

Now I don't have to worry about that since it is built into the outlet and I still have both outlets available to use like normal. My plan for this was to install it into my camper but I ended up putting it in my garage instead. I love the USB C port and it does fast charge my Samsung S8. If you have a mixed household (some Apple, some Android) this is great because both groups get a port and it helps keep the peace because the USB C is unique to Android

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Tamper-Resistant Outlet, with Type A and C USB Charger were an excellent addition to my garage workshop. It is very easy to install, simply disconnect power to your outlet by shutting off the circuit breaker, and remove the outlet you are replacing. Then connect your wires to this new outlet, put back into box, and turn on power at circuit breaker. It's that simple, and added great convenience to my workshop. I no longer need to bring my charging cube into the workshop, as it is built into my outlet, very nice!!

I can use the transformer and plug it into the wall outlet, but why when there's an outlet available that has this already worked into it. Now they are a little pricey but I only needed one in the kitchen where I normally charge my phone. No more transformer taking up valuable outlet space. USB-C is also a faster charging option for newer devices so it's nice to have this always available on my wall. Now I can easily charge my phone, plug in my laptop, and run a blender all at once, or just charge multiple devices at the same time. More options are always better and this outlet delivers.

Only having Type A usb it works as it is designed to and charges faster then I expected. The outlet is well marked for proper wiring on the back side with Hot wire, Ground, and white wires. I would recommend this.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This is not 5.1 amps I installed it today, my s12 ultra uses a usb c connector, battery was sitting at 43% plugged it in the usb c port, phone said 2 hrs and 23 minutes till full charge. I never seen it take that long, so I plugged in my 4 year old 2 amp cube, and it dropped down to 1 hr and 21 minutes. I tried 4 different cables all rated for 3 amps, all with the same result, don't waste your money on thus item.

How much idle power does the USB circuitry consume when no USB devices are plugged in?

I don't know that it uses any. I haven't noticed any difference in the monthly electric bill. I think I have 6 of these installed now. They're just plain handy and do their job well.
