Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buy this one, you won't be disappointed. Hands down, the best A/C unit I've ever bought. Super easy to install, but it is heavy, so 2 people needed. It's ridiculously quiet for it's size, you can't even tell when the compressor is on or off. It is SUPER COLD! Like, almost too cold, but that's what I paid for, isn't it? Long story short, this is the unit you're looking for.

Brought this unit to replace a 10,000 btu unit which only went to 64 on the temp. We like it cool in the bedroom, this goes to 60 and is alot quieter than the 10,000 btu unit. We liked it so much went next day bought another one to replace a 12,000 but unit in the kitchen. Love em both. Had for about 3 weeks now no issues.

Is it normal that water accumulates in the base pan?

    Asked by: francisco
Yes. It's totally normal. Water is produced as a result of the heat exchange and is picked up by the slinger fan to cool the unit.

Can this unit be used to replace a through-the-wall unit that juts out onto my condo balcony? size is right

    Asked by: lyne
I think it should be ok, but I suggest that you study the Installation Manual found here: http://gscs-b2c.lge.com/downloadFile?fileId=UoFDpdYHpvsEFA6zJaU7mA One concern is that the ventilation grids on the sides should not be obscured, so the wall on either side of the unit should not be too thick. Those vents extend to 410mm from the back (outer) end of the unit, as I measure it today. Here's some numbers from my actual measurements on the unit last year: The LW1517IVSM metal body shell is 600mm wide x 380mm tall x 630mm deep (quite accurate!), exclusive of the plastic assembly of filter/louvers/control panel at the inside (front) end. Side screws for window side-curtains are 90mm from front, so inner sill support is a nominal 100mm from front. (The rest of these numbers below you may not need at this point.) So centre of 630mm total depth is 265mm behind sill support. Hole spacing near side edges on bottom of shell: 20mm axial (front-back) pitch, 577mm lateral separation. Underside hole triplet across front: 224mm pitch; Larger 8mm holes at corners separated by 576mm centre-to-centre; These are 42.5mm from outer lip of LG shell cross member. Shell screw centre to front edge of plastic air outlet horn (ignoring sponge) = 35mm. Screw centre to front shell lip = 32.5mm. ⇒ Horn edge at front edge of top screw slots in shell, which are 4.3mm wide. Bottom of water tray (skid) to top of horn lip = 14+3/8” = 365mm. Landing surface for water tray (skid) is 370mm below inside of lip edge at top of shell , leaving 5mm vertical clearance inside lip. (Of course, most of those numbers are not needed for a standard installation, but I was improvising too.)

When motor is running at max to cool (first few hours after turning on) it sounds like a diesel engine idling outside my house. Once it's cooled enough for the motor to slow, it's very quiet. This also happens when I use Dry mode. Is this rumbling normal?

    Asked by: hend
Actually, Alex, it is that loud. But based on the responses I got, clearly this isn't normal. Plus over the last few days I've tried using the Dry mode but it INCREASES the humidity, not decreases it (I have humidity monitors in my house so I can see it go up from 50% humidity to 53% over a few hours of running). It does the same in Cool mode just not as fast. I contacted LG about both the noise and humidity issues and they determined it was definitely a defective unit and recommended I bring it back to the store for an exchange as they won't service it....it's on their list of appliances that that they won't repair, just exchange. Problem is I'm the one paying $120 each time the installer comes as I can't manage the 100lb unit. So even if I get a free replacement at the store, I'm out $240 total on install/uninstall costs. NOT impressed!!! However, thank you everyone for your responses, they were very helpful.
