It's a little confusing figuring out how everything works, but it cuts very accurately. I would definitely recommend this saw to anybody who does a lot of molding or laminate flooring. Only drawback is that it is pretty bulky and heavy. Still portable enough for one person to pick it up and move it around though.

Plenty of power, accuracy, and reasonable footprint on my small shop space. Doubt A professional would consider this but I recommend for any DIYer with beginner/intermediate skills

Set Up was a breeze although the Instructions are almost laughable. If you’ve never owned a sliding miter saw it would be hard but I have so it was easy. Only a very slight adjustment to make it true 90!

Does this Makita provide good dust collection? I currently have a Ryobi and even with my shop vac connected to its dust port, it blows sawdust all over my garage shop. I need a miter saw that collects dust as efficiently as my DeWalt table saw. Is there another, such as the Milwaukee Fuel, you would recommend over the Makita? Thanks for your thoughts.
Asked by: Jack
I would say that dust collection on this saw is just average. I have never tried it with a shop vac attached though.

When did Makita introduce their first dual sliding compound unit ? I bought one of the first units it was a 10 inch and the slider rails were both under the table, this was the best saw i ever bought, i had it for a long time (years) and never had one problem with it, someone broke into my garage and stole mine, do they still make this type ?

Can this saw cut 6" floor base. What is the max height of wood it can cut through to make picture frames.

Asked by: Deb
I'm guessing that by floor base you mean baseboards. If so then absolutely. You could cut 12" baseboards with this saw. But you can get much cheaper saws to cut base boards with if that is all you need.

Why does the LS1016 with a 15amp motor, only have 3,200rpm? While the lower model ls1018 is 13amps and 4,300rpm. This makes no sense to me. Frankly 3,200rpm is about the lowest I ever seen for a 10" miter saw. Seems like a 4,300 rpm saw would always make cleaner cuts? I'm looking to replace my old DeWalt with a 10" sliding.
Asked by: MustangJim1
Just like your vehicle, you have speed or you have power. If your pulling a trailer you want power. If your in a hurry you need speed. This saw will cut a 2x12 just as fast as it cuts a 1/2" quarter round. If you are just doing light wood or trim the 4300 rpm may be better, but if you are going to cut 2x or 4x4 you want power. Even at a slower rpm this cuts 2x's faster than the 12" inch it replaced. It's the same difference as a worm drive circle saw versus a conventional

Can a dado blade be installed?

Can a dado blade be installed?
Asked by: TSully980
I located the answer to my question. No dado blades are to be used. To achieve a dado type cut, you have to "groove" cut. A better description is to make two cuts parallel with each other and then chisel out the between the cuts until the desired dado is complete. Wonder if there is a sliding compound miter saw that will accommodate a dado blade?

Can you cut metal

Asked by: Manny
You can cut metal but I wouldn't with this saw, it is way too nice of a saw. Its all dependent on the blade. For soft non ferrous metal Diablo has an awesome blade that barely makes any sparks. For hard steel or iron you need a really expensive carbide, diamond or the cheap abrasive resin blades, all will throw out sparks. I have an old DeWalt single bevel miter I use as a chop saw. I cut metal, iron, brick, stone veneer and pavers with it. Stone and steel are very dirty when cutting, your saw will be covered in dirt, have burn marks from the Sparks. My advice go on C list buy a used under 100 for metal Etc, buy the Makita for your precision carpentry projects.
