Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makita Saw 12 Inch. Great saw! Picked this up for hobbies and it’s a beast cuts like butter. Set up was easy it’s not too heavy. I do suggest getting the stand as well and you’ll be set. The zero clearance is a great addition I can tuck it right back against the wall.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Saw Great saw for making accurate miter cuts. All angles seem to be dead on. I have not observed any problems related to the forward slides as some reviews on other sites have eluded to. The forward slide allows the placement closer to the shop wall. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five was due to the laser line. Almost impossible to get dead on, but then I have been able to judge and compensate for it not being dead on. I have used the Dewalt saw with the shadow light which is better, but the I replaced a Dewalt 12" for other issues with that saw. Overall, this is the best miter saw with maybe the Festool but the price made it a easy choice.

Very nicely made saw, fit and finish is excellent but was unable saw where it would cut the same on a plunge and a sliding cut while both methods would make a concave cut. I was certainly disappointed since it is such a nicely made saw.

This saw is built very well, many great features, awesome dust collection. Has soft start which is actually a very nice thing to have... Quality wise I think it's the best miter saw I have ever seen, but there's one drawback - the weight, this tool is heavy as f#@k, I'm thinking about buying some kind of saw stand with wheels, but if you buying it for the shop then no worries. Sliding rail design does help save some space as we are able to put saw close to the wall.

Which has better dust collection and accuracy when doing really wide cuts?
Asked by: Devin
This has probably the best dust collection system than any miter saw out there

Makita, are there any plans to upgrade the detent plate from aluminum to steel? The poorly made detent plate is the only thing keeping me from ordering this, as over time play will develop in the detent slots.

Detent plate has been okay. Watch https://www.makitatools.com/ should you desire something else more 'robust'.

I keep seeing that this saw was discontinued a few years ago, but it is available at HD and does not list it as discontinued on the Makita website. Has it been discontinued previously and this is a new version or are these older discontinued models?
Asked by: Michael
I have seen the same thing about being discontinued. I purchased it online at HD in March and had it shipped to the store. It took about 10 days to get it to my local store.

Makita, are there any plans to upgrade the detent plate from "hardened" aluminum to steel? The poorly made detent plate is the only thing keeping me from ordering this, as over time play will develop in the detent slots. And I'm sorry, saying "hardened" aluminum is just word play for, "still soft metal that will cause play in the future".
Asked by: spencer
It will never wear out. It is invincible. JK, it's 1/3 the price of top shelf miter saws. Just buy 3 and you should be good forever.
