I needed to buy new batteries to complete a deck project after my last original 3.0Ah battery died (after 12-13 years), and swapping around the one 4.0Ah battery I had really slowed things down ("Are you done with the battery yet? OK. Throw it over to me.") The fuel gauge is pretty nice after all the years of not knowing how close you were to a dead battery. And the capacity is pretty amazing. I used the packs for hours of screwing or drilling into pressure-treated lumber, and rarely got to half power. The only thing that challenged the batteries was the circular saw; cutting through a very wet, pressure-treated 2x12, cutting stair stringers. 12 feet took 3 batteries (almost with 2).

Used it to power a random orbital sander for 30 minutes, almost continuously. Still had 2 bars. Plugged it in the reciprocating saw to remove a door. Still showed 2 bars. They also last a while on the circular saw. With (2) 3Ah, (1) 4Ah, (2) 5Ah batteries & two chargers, I have enough batteries for all day, powering drill, impact driver, recip saw, circular saw, RO sander, and grinder. The battery level indicator is handy, but Makita should put them on the same side as the release button. As it is, when you plug the battery in, you can't check the battery level without first removing it.

They are the same size as the 3.0Ah ones but with a longer run time. Note: They will not work with older Makita tools that don't have the star on the battery receiver or yellow receiver and don't support the safety features of the newer batteries. Check the notches. Will not work with the bigger notch.

But these are amazing. I have yet to have a project that I have ran these 5ah to even half. I wish I would have bought them a long time ago. I love the push bottom power indicator. The 5ah are only 1/2 longer than the 2ah batteries and the weight difference is minimal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great batteries The improvement from the 3 Ah to the 4 Ahto the new 5 Ah is difficult to describe. These new batteries run and run and with the power indicator lights you are not left with no power and in a bind.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from canceled battery due to low inventory saw works tip top but to be completely honest I purchased a cordless saw due to the promotion 2 extra batteries seemed worth it upon pickup I was advised that my batteries were not included due to low inventory. Other stores had availability but had to drive 30 miles to retrieve. I shouldn't of been Givin the option of promotion before purchase instead of after transaction was completed, feels like i got hustled

How long will it take to charge one of these batteries when it’s completely discharged?

Asked by: John
I'm sure it depends on the charger you have. I have the DC18RD that I bought solely because of the usb port that I can charge my phone with. It charges 2 5ah batteries in less than 30 minutes.

I just purchased a Makita 12 inch chainsaw. At the time a couple of months ago I purchased a Cordless Makita Drill/Driver that has a 18 Volt 3.0 Lithium batter. I also purchased a Driver only cordless that contains 2 18 volt 2.0 Lithium batteries. Can I use these batteries for my chainsaw or do I have to purchase 2 5.0 Lithium batteries.
Asked by: Dennis
you can use them but will run out of power faster.

Just bought new makita 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless 1/2 in. XPT Hammer Drill/Driver and was so excited to

Open it. So you can imagine how disappointed and irritated I was to see that the batterie was missing from the box. Don’t know if it was a returned item or what but am confused as to how I go about getting that batterie I was supposed to receive.
Asked by: Fresnoman86
Apparently you purchased a bare tool only version of the drill. It is common to add different tools to our collection when we already have the batteries and just switch them between tools. If you purchase the 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion High Capacity Battery Pack 5.0Ah with LED Charge Level Indicator (2-Pack) you will them be able to grow your XLT tools with other options. Don't forget to order the charger. If you feel you may not add any additional tools I would recommend returning the tool you have and purchase the lit with the tool you want including the charger and battery it would be less expensive that buying all individually. Hope that helps.
