Rated 5 out of 5 by from 9 years old and still solid i bought a drill/impact combo set 9 years ago to build a 180 feet of 6' high wooden fence when my dewalt crapped out. have since used it to build two decks, add 40 feet of fence and tons of other projects. i always store the batteries off the tool and recharge only when exhausted. they recharge in 15 minutes and are still going strong. Not sure how good these smaller batteries for jobsite work on a daily basis you probably want to go with larger batteries but 9 years is a pretty good run. the light wieght quick charge time and solid perfornance make them perfect for most DIY use where you don't want to get frustrated by a cheap tool everytime you need to do something.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Batteries I just had two more batteries die. That makes 3 batteries in 14 months. The Makita Li-ion BL1815 battery is terrible. My drill is used regularly, but not excessively and always indoors. There is no reason for the battery to die other than the quality of the item. I tried to go on the Makita website but you can't send a complaint via email. They know this is a poor quality battery but they don't care. It's unfortunate that Home Depot doesn't seem to care either. BEWARE - this is a good looking drill that works well, but only for a short period of time. Makita quality is going down fast. If you're looking for a quality lifetime drill, I suggest you consider Ridgid. Ridgid has a hassle free lifetime warranty which includes the batteries.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Still going strong after eight years I bought the impact driver and drill set at Home Depot and it came with two batteries (unlike other manufacturers who sell "bare" tools). I've gotten a lot of use out of this driver/drill set over the past eight years and the batteries just keep going. But maybe it's because I remove the batteries from the drill/driver when not in use. And I wait until the batteries are almost fully discharged before recharging. I'm going to buy a spare set, just because I don't want to have any downtime while the batteries are recharging.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from GARBAGE The drills are good. However, the BATTERIES (BL1815) that comes with them are garbage. For unexplained reasons, the charger would recognize them and will not charge the battery and there's nothing you can do. A rep at a tool store told me no one would fix them and a nonchargeable battery of this kind is common. He suggested upgrading to the BL1830 as there's less problems with them. Looking back, I should have bought a high end RIGID for the lifetime warranty.
