Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful, sturdy, precise and heavy. I bought this grinder for concrete grinding. When I took the grinder from the box, it felt very heavy, but it was still easy to manage. I mounted 7in Dewalt diamond cup wheel, and the whole assembly looked intimidating and pretty heavy. I started the motor, the machine twisted a bit and it started to run smoothly. It was eating the concrete like cheese. The operation was smooth, no jitters, just slight vibrations. I mounted my Ridgid shop vac and Makita dust protector to th grinder. The result was easy and efficient grinding with no visible dust. After 20 minutes of grinding, the machine hardly warmed up. I recommend this grinder for heavy duty tasks.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 2 burned up units in 2 weeks I bought this unit on Sept 20th by Oct 4th the motor was arching and burning up. I am using a 7" segmented blade (also Makita) to cut 3" flagstone. I cut about 10 pieces (about 5 days use) before it burned up. I returned the unit Oct 5th, the staff was really good in the return transaction. The next morning I continued my project with the brand new one and got a 6" cut and about a 2' cut and that motor did the same thing. Again I went back to the Depot to return it and decided to go for the Ridgid instead. I have only used the Ridgid for a couple of hours that day but seems OK for now. I own a couple other Makita tools and they seem of superior quality but this grinder is more that disappointing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from My earlier review was a mistake. A bad mistake. After my positive review in April, I stored the grinder until I wanted to grind the basement floor. This time it worked for 10 minutes and it started to heat up, smell like burning plastic and blue sparks were clearly visible from the collector area. I removed the grinding cup, repositioned the graphite brushes, but the machine alone was slightly shaking and burning the graphite brushes. I regret I did not follow advice of the previous reviewer. HD will not take it for repair and I will have to waste time with Makita.
