Rated 1 out of 5 by from 1/2" Milwaukee Mini Copper Tubing Cutter I would not buy this 1/2" Copper Tubing Cutter again. Who ever designed the cutting tolerances for this needs to have verified this cutter can actually cut 1/2" Copper tubing, M or K. I had a very difficult time cutting two of these 1/2" Speedy Valves off a two 1/2" copper tubes under a kitchen sink.

Honestly truth be told I did not try it on a Pex but I want to believe that it should be able to cut it.

Will this also cut through a stainless steel tube?

Yes it will. I have cut through the shiny water supply line for sinks and toilets but am not sure if they were chromed steel or stainless. However, I have cut through a barbecue spatula handle which was stainless. I have also shortened a few telescoping antenna which were stainless so you should be good to go. Be aware of the fact the 5/8 inch opening refers to the width the cutter opens and not pipe size. Half inch copper pipe requires a 5/8 inch opening due to the pipe wall thickness. Therefore a 5/8 inch opening will fit over an installed 1/2 inch pipe while a cutter with a 9/16 inch opening may only fit over the open end of a 1/2 inch copper pipe. Pipe dreams.

Sorry for the silly question, but does this cut a 1/2" (inner diameter) / 5/8" (outer diameter) standard copper bath tub spout pipe?

Hello, not a silly question as the item description was vague. Yes, it does cut standard copper pipe. It's small size allows you to get into small spaces. I successfully cut a 5/8" copper pipe in a tiny space.
