[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These Milwaukee Left Cutting Aviation Snips are an outstanding value. They feel very comfortable in the hand during use, cut smoothly and evenly. Left cutting aviation snips are most often used by right-handed people to make straight cuts or cuts to the left. Left cutting aviation snips are color coded red. These snips were used to cut metal ducting to length producing a nice straight even cut. I used a waste piece of ducting to make a short duct coupler rather than throw it out.

The cut edge has held up well thus far and the grips are comfortable. My only issues are that the prongs are much fatter than other snips I have used, which makes cutting in tight spots difficult. Also they are bigger overall.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Long life Bought only the left for an alternative replacement to a cheap pair of wiss snips that had broke. As durable as they are they do not cut up to 16 gauge. Wiss will outperform them hands down, and Midwest will outperform Wiss. Good as a backup pair/set but thats it. Too much serration marks left behind on softer materials such as aluminum or copper. Good for 20 gauge and up on galvanized and mild steel sheets.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well on brass shim stock Not cheap, but tools worth having never are. I purchased this to cut brass shim stock. Does a fine job. It does leave a slight but not pronounced scalloping along the edge. This also cuts thin shim stock, which surprised me a little. I expected to have to use scissors, but this eliminated the need for scissors for shim stock below .005.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from much more comfortable than my last pair I had a pair of harbor freight Pittsburgh long blade aviation snips, but wanted a better set. The blades on these snips grip the material very well before cutting it, and the cutting action is very smooth. The return spring is quite stiff and the handles are very comfortable. Very compact, powerful pair of shears.

I needed something right away, HD had these in stock so I grabbed them and got to work. FYI: it is cheaper to purchase the left and right cutters for 14 dollars each than the set.

What’s the difference between right and left hand cutting aviation

Asked by: Angel
Aviation snips are color coded for different cutting jobs. Yellow handled snips are made to cut in a straight line. They can also cut wide curves and are ideal for flat pieces of metal. Green handled snips are designed to make straight and right (clockwise) cuts and are perfect for right handers cutting duct. Red handled snips cut best straight and to the left (counter-clockwise). You can use any of the snips in either hand but they will only perform well when cutting in the direction they were intended for.
