Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome set!! I recently installed 43 bollards on my property and bought 6” pipe and cut them myself and also drilled 4 holes on each bollard myself. I saved a ton of money making the bollards myself. I had this set on hand and used one bit to drill 172 holes into 3/8 metal and the bit is still going strong!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sharp, Cuts Fast, Doesn't Overheat [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a great set of drill bits. The bits cut into the material easily and do not tend to overheat like other bits. Normally when drilling into metal you have to drill a pilot hole and use oil to lubricate and cool the bit. These bits just begin cutting into the material with ease, I imagine that lubricating oil would be a good preventive measure for drilling larger diameter holes. The waste is channeled away from the work so the bit does not load up. The set comes with a nice case that allows easy access to the size you need.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No material is safe from these bits. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These bits go right through steel studs like a hot knife through butter! For the 1/2" hole, I did step it up twice before I used the 1/2" bit. It was less than 5 seconds before the 1/2" hole was made. For large holes, step up the hole, and use a slower speed. High speed will heat up the bit and dull it faster. The tip on these is 135 degrees, it really helps the bit from walking when you start a hole. The bigger bits have a groove in the cutting edge to help dissipate heat faster. The twist of the bit also varies going up the bit to clear the shavings quicker as well. These are fantastic bits, the price is a bit high, but they are so very worth it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quality Kit -plentyful sizes - Quality case [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Helix design is GREAT!! Fits cleanly into the chuck and "locks" in so it won't spin. The drill bits slide easily in and out of the case with ease. This seems like a little thing, but I HATE when I have to FIGHT with each drill bit as I try to remove it from the case. The other "claim to fame" for these bits is ....they last 10X longer than standard bit. I used them on 1/4 inch steel and they have done a nice job so far. Also, I like the wide array of size choices. I would recommend these bits.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am a fan of Milwaukee products and this 29 piece cobalt drill bit set is no different. The bits come in an organized case with the exact size of the bits clearly marked. It can be a little difficult to get a bit out of the case. The cobalt bits can be used for a variety of drilling applications from plastic, wood to hard steel. I frequently drill 3/16" angle iron and occasionally thicker metals by using oil to keep the bits cool. These bits do well in hard metal with a little oil. These bits will last a long time. Great product!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is absolutely the best drill set for the money... This is absolutely the best drill set for the money I’ve been able to find anywhere! You can tell by the weight of the bits that they have a substantial amount of cobalt. So why only 5-stars??? It’s the incredibly bad case. The plastic grips the bits so tightly that pliers are needed to remove them. This is clearly a marketing ploy; the shiny red plastic looks great in a display and it must be cheaper to supply. But shame on Milwaukee; the merits of a shiny display are IMMEDIATELY lost when the bits need to be used. Fortunately, there is a remedy; just invert the bits in the case. Most of the holes require enlargement as most of the bits have reduced shanks but you have the bits right there! Buy these bits, give Milwaukee’s marketing staff a wave of your index finger, and don’t look back!

Funny you should ask....Just yesterday I needed to drill out a corroded bolt on a pressure washer, and I selected one of the smaller caliber bits. When I attempted to bore a hole down the longitudinal shaft of the bolt, this bit was disappointedly ineffective, making minimal progress. I then substituted a similar-sized Dewalt cobalt bit and it went through the metal almost effortlessly. Although I don't own a lot of Milwaukee tools, I have felt that the Milwaukee brand is upper-tier, so I'm somewhat surprised at this result. However, this example only involved 1 drill bit in a single trial. Jury is still out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These Cobalt Drill Bits work just fine Drilling into Metal the smaller bits 1/8 inch and under Can be run around 1000-1300 rpm (i always keep on the slower side, some say the smaller bits can go faster but just more chance of heat build up and breakage i think) bits above 1/8 inch you should run about 500-600 rpm and watch your shavings if discolored looking you need to slow down, be sure to use a Cutting oil (I use Tap Magic) when drilling into metal with cobalt bits it helps keep the heat down and helps the drill bit cut better.

Is this kit better than that 29 piece titanium kit?

Asked by: Encanto63
I’ve used the Milwaukee Black Oxide, Titanium, and Cobalt drill bits for drilling through hardened steel. The cobalt bits blew away the other bits in how quickly they cut through the hardened steel. For tough jobs such as hardened steel, the cobalt bits hands down. Very fast and clean cuts. For everything else, the titanium bits. I don’t think Milwaukee makes the black oxide bits anymore, but I like those a lot for everyday use. I also bought a drill doctor and took the time to read the instructions on how to use it correctly. With a little practice, I am able to greatly extend the life of my drill bits. I’ve used several other brands of drill bits, but for the price, and the type of work I do, I prefer Milwaukee’s drill bits.

what is the percent of cobalt in these bits

what is the percent of cobalt in these bits
Asked by: goose
Most cobalt bits are between 5-8% cobalt, with the percentage stamped on the bit. These are only coated so shorter life and no sharpening. Try another more reasonable priced brand that doesn’t hide behind deceptive trade secrets

Is this M35 or M42?
Asked by: CaliDIYer
The "M" numbers correspond to the % of cobalt in the drill bit, which is usually either 5% or 8%. According to a response from Milwaukee, above, that % is "proprietary information", hence it is not provided.
