Milw. Propex expander kitSince receiving this tool I have only used it a couple of times and found it to be a quality tool that works great at connecting PEX fittings. My only disappointment is that the kit only comes with 1'' and larger heads but not 1/2" or 3/4". Otherwise, the kit comes with two batteries, charger, expansion heads and a nice case. It is a fast and efficient tool that most plumbers would love to have. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Heavy Duty - Almost Complete Kit - Large size headsThis M18 Kit is great except that the smallest size expansion head it comes with is 1". This kit would
be complete if they included all of the smaller sizes down to 3/8" .
The kit comes with:
The M18 cordless expansion tool - It's heavy but it's got lots of power.
3 expansion heads (1", 1 1/4" & 1 1/2")
2 M18 battery packs
A multi-voltage charger (works with both M12 & M18 Battery packs)
A 1.75oz. tube of cone grease
Protective carry case that fits everything
The kit is geared towards larger PEX pipe connections but the fact that the tool can also use smaller size heads they really should have included them. The head size range it can take is 3/8" - 1 1/2" but I have yet to find them in the smaller sizes (under 1") for the M18 tool.
The tool itself is heavy duty and extremely powerful. The expander works really well and makes connections quick and easy. The heads are easily installed/removed by simply hand twisting them (no tools required).
This tool is awesome and the kit is great if you only need the 1" + size heads! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Beyond quality tool, but for a very specific applicationMilwaukee! Milwaukee! Milwaukee! They just make some fantastic quality tools. The quality of this expansion tool is immediately felt as soon as you pick it up. I mean the thing almost feels indestructible and the 3 heads that come with it are not lacking in the quality department. They are just as robust as the tool itself. The kit comes with 1", 1 1/4", and 1 1/2" heads, but has the capacity to be used with any of Milwaukee expansion heads from 3/8 to 1 1/2". You also get a great battery charger that chargers both M12 and M18 batters, 2 M18 batteries, and a tube of grease for the heads and lets not forget the nice Milwaukee case that its all packaged in.
THE PROS: This is a very high quality and robust tool that is bound to give you a long working life. Milwaukee gives a great 5 year warranty on the tool itself and a really nice 3 year warranty on the batteries. The cam really does as advertised not only gives you a precise expansion of the tube, but it does it much faster and along with the rotating head you get a continuous and even expansion around the circumference of the hose. Which is a great thing because the even expansion means that the tube always compresses around the fitting evenly for a water tight seal. The batteries are a big plus. I love Milwaukee batteries and to me they make the best batteries for their tools on the market. They just seem to last so much longer than other Lithium Ion batteries. The light on the front is a simple but nice touch as plumbers seem to always find themselves in dark places. The different size heads are readily available and easy to find online for purchase. The expansion tool definitely makes the installation of PEX tubing much easier and faster.
THE CONS: This M18 Propex expansion tool is a bit on the heavy side. Its not going to be something you are going to want to wield for a long period of time. This is not a tool that you are going to find in most peoples garage. It is quite expensive actually. Now I understand the need for specialized tools, but to me this tool is just way to specific. It is specifically oriented to one profession, for one purpose, and one brand of tubing. Milwaukee says on their site that the tool is on for use with Uponer Propex connections. It just seems like if you are a professional plumber that installs PEX on a regular enough basis to warrant the purchase of this tool then you would need to purchase all three of the expansion tools in Milwaukee's lineup. As the M12 Propex expansion tool is for 3/8 to 1" connections. It is also much more compact and much lighter. The M18 Propex is for 3/8 to 1 1/2" connections. It is more power, has a longer battery life, and the capacity for a larger head than the M12, but with the weight of this tool it would just be more practical to use the M12 and reserve the M18 for the tubing sizes the M12 cant handle which are only 1 1/4" and 1 1/2". Then there is the Biggest one. The M18 Force Logic, which does 2 to 3" connections.
I am on the fence about this tool. Don't get me wrong. It is a great quality tool that would make your life easier if you are a professional plumber installing Uponer Propex on a regular basis that would be enough to warrant such tools. It is definitely not for the weekend warrior even if you have taken on a large project like remodeling a complete bathroom. I am giving the tool 4 stars. It is a 5 star tool as far as quality and performance for what it is meant for which is most important, but I am removing a star because its just so specific to one profession and only one thing with in that profession and only one brand of PEX tubing. I removed only a single star because I am also trying to keep in mind that it is a specialized tool and by its very nature is going to be limited to what it was specifically designed for.
