Rated 1 out of 5 by from Quit on second use Grinder came as a kit of 4 tools , so I did not buy it specifically. Circular saw, impact driver and drill are excellent for the occasional use they have had. The grinder however was able to zip cut some 26 gauge roofing tin okay. Using the same .050" thin cut off wheel tried to cut off some 1/4" material. The grinder lost power, changed the battery with a fresh one and it immediately let a large puff of smoke out. Trying to turn by hand yields a notchy and stiff feel. Looks like the grinder did not survive. Thinking I might of had a bad one as it is basically new till I read this review section. I would not recommend to zip cut anything thicker than roofing tin with this, let alone try to grind with it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid grinder, very unhelpful reviews. I found the disparity in reviewer very unhelpful in deciding if this was worth a buy. Here's the downlow: This grinder is exceptionally fast for LIGHT DUTY work. It will do medium duty tasks, but won't be quick. It will repeatedly fail at heavy duty tasks. It has a very high rpm and a decent amount of torque and cuts thinner materials extremely fast. It's killer for cutting through sheet metal and extruded metals. If you buy this grinder to do heavy duty grinding and material removal, you will be disappointed. I own another brushless fuel grinder that's developed a warranty issue and needed this grinder to use in the mean time, because I use my cordless grinder almost every day. It went on sale for 25% off, and for that price this was a steal. It's lighter in weight, and for light duty cutting tasks it's actually faster than the FUEL model, owing to the higher RPM. It's main issue preventing it from doing heavy duty work the brushes on the motor begin to get hot very quickly when the grinder is pushed. 18v brushed motors just do not have the ability to handle the high currents for a long time. If you lay off the grinder and just let the blade do the cutting, this grinder will serve you well for most tasks. In summary: - Lightweight, and fairly comfortable for one handed operation. - Cuts fast and has a good cutting power when maintaining high rpm. It just doesn't have any low speed grunt, so don't lean into your cuts. Let the blade do the cutting, cowboy. - For any cordless grinder, your expectations can only be as good as your batteries. 9ah or 12ah will give you a full day of cutting or grinding and plenty of torque. If you have a compact battery, or an old, tired 3ah battery, you're not going to get much cutting time or cutting power from this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent well worth having in your M18 kit Bought to use in a field as a sander. My 4 year old XC 3000mah batteries will run this continuously for 8-20 minutes per battery depending on how badly I am abusing it with a 40grit flap sander wheel. Shapes and smooths dry ash without slowing, removing chainsaw marks on some log benches. Bought a diamond wheel just to see how it cuts tile, quite pleased. Really nice balance and control. If I can wear it out (unlikely), would consider the fuel version but the added cost is almost the same as another battery so......

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No type 1 guard I bought this intended for cutting ceramic. Before I even started using it, I noticed there is only a type 27 guard in the package while on Milwaukee Canada website it says both type 1 and type 27 guard. When I check the box again, sadly it does say the package comes with only a type 27 guard. However, that doesn't change the fact I can't use it to make cuts with a proper guard. Worse even, there is nowhere to even buy type 1 guard. So what am I supposed to do with it? If this can't be resolved, I will have no choice but to return it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from About time! About time I got a cordless one. I have two corded angle grinders and this unit has "corded" power. I very much like how the safety guard protector can easily be rotated to suit the job at hand. The unit I bought did not have the nut flange attached. Home Depot did provide the part albeit reluctantly. Repeatedly asked if I bought on clearance which I did not. In the replacement unit the nut flange was screwed onto the spindle. Other than that, I am very happy with the product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Big disappointment Bought it to remove stucco off a chimney and it got so hot after a few minutes even with a big battery. It kept shutting off so I returned it.Even my old Rigid angle grinder works better so I will stick with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great very useful tool Excellent tool, light weight works great. If cutting and light grinding battery life is good, if heavy grinding battery life is much shorter I would recommend the extended life battery.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Grinder failed on me within a month The grinder failed after 3 uses, it seems like the bearing jambed. I am sure it’s not the norm as I have many reliable Milwaukee tools so will exchange it and try again.

Is this product 100% compatible with the battery (M18 18V Lithium-Ion Extended Capacity (XC) 3.0 Ah REDLITHIUM Battery Pack), without any performance problem and power risk ? I already have many Milwaukee Tools with XC3.0h.

Aside from the obvious safety concerns, is there some reason one could not just remove the guard from this unit and use 5 inch (or perhaps even 6 inch) grinding disks?

Asked by: lornem
Yes you can,it does take a little more power. Handy tool.

Reviews look good, should I assume this model does not have any variable speed control?

Asked by: Acook
Hi Acook, The Milwaukee M18 4-1/2" cut-off grinder is a single speed grinder.
