Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk I have not been impressed with Milwaukee Tape measures so far. I was excited to try this one out. However the first day the plastic underneath the tape for the first 6 inches came off. Two weeks later I had a cut at about the 30 inch mark. I have found this to be a common issue with Milwaukee tapes and have not had a tape measure last more then a month. If you want to actually use your tape measure this is not the one to use. Stick with the Stanley Fat Max. I would rather be fat then wide

BACKGROUND: I have a dozen tape measures, but none by Milwaukee. The chance to review their Wide Blade 25 ft. Tape Measuer was too good to pass up. FIT AND FINISH: I like the fit and finish of all my Milwaukee tools. The new tape-measure continues that trend. FEATURES: From the Home Depot page, with my comments as appropriate. • Up to 17 ft. of reach ◦ Not even close to 17 feet of standout. I tried multiple times to reach 17 feet but the best I got was 13. After about 11 feet it was too unsteady to do anything as far as moving around to hook onto anything. Drop at 13 feet was about 4 feet and almost impossible to lift the end without a breakover. Several of my other tape measures operated almost as well. • Longest reach; straightest standout ◦ Not for me. Comparable to several of my other tapes. • Anti-tear coating reinforces the first 6 in. of the tape blade ◦ This is a handy feature. Most of my tape-measures loose their markings within the first few feet. Time will tell for this one. • Nylon bond blade protection reduces tape tear ◦ Not sure what this is, but the tape feels like it’s plastic coated. Several of my other tapes feel the same way. I don’t see how this will stop the metal tape from breaking. • Impact-resistant 5-point reinforced frame ◦ I didn’t do any drop testing to confirm this. • Finger stop delivers tape retraction control ◦ I routinely use my fingers to slow down the tape while it’s retracting. The nice thing about this is the finger cutout is designed in and lets you use your finger in a normal grip. I like it! • 2-sided printing for easy reading ◦ This is a favorite feature for me. Too many times I’ve lost grip with a tape hook while turning the tape to read it. • Architectural scale ◦ I don’t do a lot of architectural reading. But the scale is on the bottom of the tape and doesn’t interfere with using the tape to measure, so it’s a handy extra. • Wire form belt clip ◦ I found this clip easier to use than the solid steel clips on my other tapes. I like it. • Lanyard-ready for quick and easy tethering ◦ If I did ladder work with my tape this would be handy. At least it is there if you do. • Large printing. ◦ IThe printing on the tape is larger than my others. Much easier to read. • Large hook. ◦ A more common feature in new tapes it is very nice to lock on from any side of the tape, especially if working overhead combined with the dual sided printing. OPERATION: The tape mechanism is smooth, the spring retracts fully and the finger brake is easy to use. Although the tape is bigger than any of my others the size affects the droop and breakover. Measuring overhead is MUCH NICER with the printing on the bottom. SUMMARY: A good tape measure, comparable to any of my other higher end tapes in general, but with some features that make it a standout. PROS: Finger brake for retracting. Markings on both sides. Architectural scale on back. Wire belt loop. CONS: Only 12 foot standout reliably. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Milwaukee 25 ft. x 1.3 in. Wide Blade Tape Measure with 14 ft. Standout - a Home Depot Seeds Program Review I always have tape measures around. I keep one just about anywhere I might go – sheds, cars, garage, kitchen, etc. Generally I just have cheap “freebies” that I don’t care if they get lost, broken or “borrowed”. For some work, though, I want a good, accurate tool and the Milwaukee 25 ft. x 1.3 in. Wide Blade Tape Measure meets all of my needs and provides a good intermediate size between my 35 foot and 16 foot tapes. The tape is 25 feet long, 1.3 inches wide, a little under 1.25 pounds and marked in SAE on both sides with the top side markings horizontal and the back side vertical. There are no metric markings but there are Milwaukee models that have them. The tape also has a section on back side for Architectural Scale which is not something I will not make much use of but some may. The markings are all very clear and readable down to 1/16 inches. The curve on the 1.3 inch wide tape allows for a 14 foot standout for times when you have no partner to help extend the tape. I can’t say I’ve been able to get it to standout all 14 feet horizontally but it comes withing six or eight inches of that so I can’t complain. The hook is very solid and held by four rivets so I expect it would take some considerable abuse before tearing the end of the tape. In addition to the rivets there’s an anti-tear coating on the convex side extending 6 inches up the tape that should provide additional strength. The hook extends over the tape on the top and bottom but not on the sides, which would be nice like it is on a 16 foot Milwaukee tape I have. The case is held together with four screws making it feel very solid. The belt/pocket clip is very strong as well and held by a single screw in case you don’t want it attached. If you prefer a lanyard there’s a place to attach one but no lanyard is included. The lock holds very well and there’s an indent on the bottom to be used as a finger stop when retracting the tape. I do some finer woodworking and this tape is a bit long and large but is great for longer measurements needed in construction or similar applications. The 1.3 inch width means the edge of the tape stand up about 3/8 inch when looking down at the concave side. Parallax errors will definitely be a problem and precision measurements can be affected but this is where having the measurement marking on both sides and the ability to use the hook in any orientation comes in very handy. Flip the tape over and view down on the convex side and the markings are right on the work. This reduction of parallax may not seem significant in some applications but can be critical when doing finer measurements. This Milwaukee 25 ft. x 1.3 in. Wide Blade Tape Measure has everything I need in a tape measure for larger applications. At 1.25 pounds it’s a substantial weight. The SAE measurement markings are large and clear on both sides of the tape and the curve of the tape improves standout, increases the versatility and reduces parallax errors to at or near zero. Metric markings might be nice too but I didn’t opt to get a model with them. I would also like to have the hook extend over all four sides like my 16 foot tape does. A lot of good design features went into this tape to improve longevity and usability. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not what I hoped for I've been a long time Stanley Fat Max user, but was interested to see what the Milwaukee had to offer. The Wide Blade 25' looked to be a comparable tape. I wasn't sure why Milwaukee's, made in China tape was priced higher than Stanley's made in the USA tape, but the additional features such as, double sided markings, finger stop and larger markings were enough to make me try one. For whatever reason, the 25' Wide Blade tapes at Home Depot are of a 14' standout variety, not the 17' shown in the description, and on Milwaukee's site. The issues that I immediately noticed were, that it took very little to make the tape roll and then fold/flop, when extending out in the air. Also, it would not easily retract without manually helping it in. That is a huge waste of time on the job. To me, it seemed more difficult to get the tongue to hook securely on framing material. I never noticed this with the Fat Max. Anyway, for those reasons I will be returning the Milwaukee.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This tape measure is wider and heavier than the “normal” 25 feet tape measure. The additional width of the blade also explains the additional weight. However, the features of the measure offset the additional weight. The blade is printed on both sides which makes viewing and marking easier and more accurate. The package says the blade has a 14’ standout (distance you can extend the blade without it bending/collapsing) to allow one person to make long distance measuring. I could get it to stand out at 14’ but found stability and consistency at 12 feet. That is still very good, and the 14’ is feasible. The tape has the usual type of blade lock, but there is also a “finger brake” slot on the underside that can be used to stop and hold the blade independent of the lock or in conjunction with it. Even the wire formed belt clip seems to be more efficient than the other style of solid metal clip. Milwaukee has improved the blade tape measure and this is now my “go to” wide blade measure.
