Rated 5 out of 5 by from Moen M8525 Pop up drain purchase and installation I have installed 3 of these Moen all metal pop up drains with overflow (M8525) over the last week in our 3 bathrooms. Very easy install and they look great, much better looking and of higher quality than the ones we replaced. I used Oatey stain free plumbers putty between the pop up drain assembly seat and the sink as well as teflon tape on both thread parts below the sink and have had absolutely no issues with any water leakage. The pop up stopper easily unscrews for cleaning purposes in the future. I would recommend this pop up drain on looks, features and the ease of install in my case. Cheers T

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The products leaks like crazy. Originally bought 3 of them to replace the drains in my 3 bathrooms. All 3 leaked and I had to used a lot of Teflon tape and pipe dope. After removing and reinstalling the drain on all bathrooms it took all day for something so simple to do but I finally got it to stop leaking. The drain was leaking in the area where the tail pipe screws into the top drain. My biggest mistake was to give Moen 1 last chance because I figured maybe I just had bad luck but again it leaked in the same area. For something so expensive I figure there should be no problems with it so I will be bring this product back to get my money back and look for a better design. Surprised that not a lot of people have been having the same issue.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't buy-They Stick Down and Can't be Opened I bought 2 of these a few years ago and they have been non stop trouble. They don't move smoothly and stick in the down position, from which it is nearly impossible to get them to pop up again. When this happens, sometimes they will open after repeatedly pushing on the stopper, but sometimes I have to use a piece of dowel and hammer to shock them into opening. This happens with both sinks. They look good, but are a nightmare.

These things leak ,make sure you have some plumbers putty and thread dope as it screws together underneath and leaks there and leaks through the rubber seal underneath,for the price of it maybe moen needs to put a little more thought into i would say buy something else i came pretty close to throwing it out as i did not think i could maybe return it ,finally got it though, expensive junk i would have to say.

Can this work with bathtub drainage?

I don't think so.The pop-up plug fits into the tailpiece that it came with, so, unless you are installing the tailpiece, this won't likely fit into the one that is currently in the bathtub.

Can I use plumbers putty instead of the white gasket or is it recommended to use both? I find using the gasket to in the instructions doesn’t form a tight seal around the ring to the sink like without it
