My copper pipe is to short to reach the slip fit connection. Is there an alternatice model?

Also, is there anyway to get around this issue? I ordered the same one with the diverter and the set screw is positioned different. I basically need the diverter model but without the diverter.

You would get approximately ¼”diameter showing behind the spout. The Moen Tub/Shower Drain covers in Brushed Nickel are part # T90331BN. Can this be used on a threaded connection despite being slip on. The PDF seems to indicate that its possible, but the manual has almost no words and leaves a lo tot be desired.
