Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quick, Simple, Straightforward, Minimal Cleanup My husband, father-in-law and I just put this in our house today. It took us roughly an hour and a half to cover 1098 sq ft. We used 15 bags to add about an R30 to an already existing R13. We returned what we didn't use and got our deposit back on the machine--the initial deposit is $250. My husband was the one up in the attic and said it was very easy to use, like spraying a water hose--you just point and shoot. We had to change the batteries (two AAA) in the remote on the hose before we used it and then it worked great. Thank you to those who shared their experience with this product, it really helped us choose. We are very happy with the result.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from this machine is good, powerful and the remote is great I had to do a 'confined space' job last August, for a business, where none of their guys would even go into the narrow space I had to wiggle into (about 14" x 21") and then into the 35 ft long by 23" clear space from top of ceiling joist to bottom of roof rafter. SO, the remote on/off and the hose for the AttiCat machine did wonderfully. I did have a 'spotter' down a floor and outside the space...'just in case'..! The power to absolutely fill the vertical cavities, and the power to blow it over 10 ft away where even I could not reach, made the job fast and done well. Would use it again in a heartbeat. Notice, I could NOT have done the job with the old 'cellulose' machine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So easy! I absolutely loved this...I bought 15 bags (rental free for 24 hours with 10 bags) for 1000sf with about 1" of existing flat and nasty existing insulation. The machine was so easy to use. Bags loaded in easily, the hose was lightweight, basically everything about it was great. The insulation ended up going further than I thought. I ended up with about 18" in most of the attic (except the center where I plan on putting plywood down). After all that I only used 9 bags! I wanted to make sure I used at least 10 and my buddy loved it so much, we shot over to his house and blew in a few bags there. I highly recommend this and wish I had done it months ago!! 9 bags x $32 = $288 CHEAP!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As good as it gets Had received numerous quotes from different people to blow in insulation to my attic, that ranged from between too much and astronomical. Looked at this product, took a trip to Home Depot and discussed square footage with an associate and ease of use for the AttiCat blower. 12 bags and an hour and a half later was all it took to add four inches of insulation to 1660 square feet. within four hours on a 100 degree day, I could already feel that I had made the right decision. You cant go wrong with this stuff and its promoted to not settle like cellulose, thereby maintaining its thermal protection and your investment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quick and Easy! I know nothing about insulation, but with the associates help, I bought the perfect amount of insulation, used this machine, and in 2 hours did my new-construction 24x35 foot attic. I had to do 16" for R49 as per code in north central PA, but had a furnace area, so ended up with about 18", which suits me just fine! Machine worked GREAT! My 13 year-old easily inserted the bags of insulation and now....my attic is warm, pink and fluffy! Almost makes me want to hang out up there........NOT! I highly recommend this as a DIY.....if I can do it....YOU CAN! What a difference in the heating bill. I think they should add sparkles to it. Oh yeah, I bought a tyvek suit, mask and goggles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Atticat Insulation from Owens Corning This stuff is great and the system that Owens-Corning developed to install it is fantastic. Make sure you get the actual O-C Atticat machine, not the metal alternate that weighs 335 lbs. This product works great, covers as advertised and is easy to work with. My wife and I did our 940sq ft garage ceiling in 3 hours, start to clean -up. The actual insulation application took about an hour an a half. I worked the applicator in the attic and she loaded the bags, that I had already cut and split. I was amazed how well the entire system worked and we saved at least half what it would have cost to have it done. Don't hesitate, it is the way to go!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Piece of cake Easiest home improvement project I've ever done. Did an 1170 square foot attic at R-60 in just over 3 hours. Used the recommendation of others to put a 6' piece of PVC pipe on the end of the hose and was able to reach back into eve area without crawling back over the joists under an 8/12 pitch roof. If you use the insulation calculator to determine what you need, keep in mind that it does not take the roof pitch into account. I was supposed to need 33 bags to install to 14 inches. Ended up only using 24 bags and did 16 inches throughout. Great material to work with, no dust, no itching or picking and no mess inside or out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WAY TOO EASY WHEN I STARTED THINKING ABOUT ADDING MORE INSULATION IN MY ATTIC,I DREADED THINKING ABOUT HOW HARD IT WAS GOING TO BE TO ROLL OUT BATTS OF INSULATION. THAT'S PROBABLY WHY I NEVER DID IT. I STARTED RESEARCHING OTHER WAYS AND LOOKED INTO BLOWN-IN INSULATION. THEN I CAME ACROSS ATTICAT DO IT YOURSELF WITH FREE MACHINE RENTAL WHEN YOU BUY 10 BAGS OF INSULATION. I JUST DIDN'T BELIEVE HOW EASY THIS WAS. I CUT THE BALES IN HALF THE NIGHT BEFORE AND WITH MY WIFE LOADING THE MACHINE AND ME IN THE ATTIC, WE BLEW IN 19 BAGS IN UNDER 4 HOURS. MY ATTIC WENT FROM R-19 TO R-44. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE WHO IS THINKING ABOUT ADDING INSULATION TO THEIR HOME. DON'T EVEN THINK THAT YOU CAN'T DO IT,BECAUSE IT WAS SOOO EASY.

Since the product R-Value is measured by height where can I find Insulation Depth Markers?

I cannot find these on the Home Depot website. They seem critical for applying the product correctly.
Asked by: Todd
I went and bought paint stir sticks, cut them to the length I wanted and stapled a few around different areas. Then just sprayed the insulation until I covered the ends.

is this product flammable if put on or next to out dated wiring in old buildings

is this product flammable if put on or next to out dated wiring in old buildings
Asked by: doda
Hi Doda, the product itself is not combustible. If the wiring is knob and tube, we do not recommend installing any insulation over the wiring as it may not allow heat to dissipate. Thank you for your inquiry!

How thick do you need it and how many bags will it take to get at least R34 in a 800sqft home

How thick do you need it and how many bags will it take to get at least R34 in a 800sqft home
Asked by: Bo
You can find everything you ever wanted to know on owensCorning.com. They help you figure out how much it will take of everything and how to do everything. BUT to answer your questions, you have to put the insulation 12" deep to obtain R34. To Cover 800 SF at 12" deep (R34) will require 14 bags. I think you can buy a few more bags to get over their 20 bag threshold and it will get a lot cheaper per bag. The extra bags you have can just be blown into the attic also and provides slightly more insulation R value and will slightly improve sound deadening. And then of course you have to rent their blow in machine and be sure you take between 100’ and 150’ of hose. The insulation has to bounce along thru 100 to 150 ft of hose for it to expand after being packed that tight. The stuff is marvelous and works like a champ!!! You should go to their web site OwensCorning.com to get info about air baffles so that the loose insu- lation doesn’t get blown onto the eave vent screens thereby blocking the roof air flow which is oh so necessary. Good luck Rick

Can I use this in a Crawl space

Asked by: AV
Hi AV, AttiCat is designed to install on the floor of an attic, and typically would not be used in a crawlspace, where insulation is generally applied to the ceiling and/or walls. Thank you for your inquiry!
