Rated 1 out of 5 by from Defective 12-pack I have used hundreds of toggle bolts in my life but these were defective. I bought a 12 pack and the first 3 failed. Just as the bolts were about to tighten up, they would slip and would never tighten. I think the threads on the bolts were bad during production or slightly smaller bolts were mistakenly inserted in the pack. A hard day's work was ruined by this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from worth the money there better when you can't finding a stud, the plastic push in ones are not worth the money when you need them for anything over 2lbs.

What size drill bit is required for the hole in the drywall?

Asked by: Ryan
Package calls for 1/2 inch drill on a 3/16 toggle size. This was a larger bit than I had on hand so I just used my largest bit ( and kept grinding away until the toggle went through). I patched the little excess that showed after mounting a shelf but for some applications (towel rack) it wasn't even necessary as the item covered the excess when installed. Unless you have many items to install, it isn't worth buying a bigger (expensive) drill bit for the job, however if you are installing them into something other than drywall you may need to but then again another mounting system might work as well if you are going into a harder surface such as wood.
