The description says "proper ventilation in attic" how does solid soffit ventilate ?

If you look at the soffet for this page the material has holes regularly throughout the surface. It vents. It allows air to travel up and through the soffet to allow the attic to vent. It is not a solid sheet of aluminum. The link referred to in this question is for the solid aluminum product which is totally different. It does not have the vent holes.

Can I use this as a soffit for my front porch which is 8x12ft with an attached turret porch extension?

how to determine the cut sizes

Your soffit should have an inside covering (Jtrim or something like that on the inside edge) and the outside edge should be covered with fascia. cut to length to the inside edge is covered with the Jtrim or whatever, and leave 1/4 inch on the outside edge for the fascia to cover over the gap

Can insects get through the vent holes?

Hi Sean, thanks for your question. Since the holes in the soffit are designed mainly to facilitate airflow, and not to stop insects from getting in, there may be some that are able to pass through. If your building code permits, there is a non-vented soffit available which may or may not work for your application. Thanks Sean.
