As is stated in the title the thickness of the glass 12mm? The reason why I ask is that it states in the product details that the Nominal Depth (in.) is .63 which equals 16mm? So which one is it 12mm or 16mm thick?

No it cannot be topless as that would be a safety violation. My deck looks great with the top rail as it is very thin and matches the spigots.
