Rated 4 out of 5 by from Ground spike Great product. As a builder and contractor I use these types of spikes on occasion. Finally here is an adjustable spike that is so necessary because of the unknowns when pounding down a spike into soil. You're always almost guaranteed to hit something below grade that'll redirect the spike. I gave it a four out of five just because the access to the adjustment nut should be a bit wider to accommodate wrench travel.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not recommended I installed 6 of these yesterday based on the recommendation of HD staff for a fence. Both ends of the fence were lagged into very solid, secure points however it wasn't good enough. The fence spans 6, 8' sections and is very wobbly. In addition, the bolts used to tighten the sheath around the 4x4 become longer as you tighten it and eventually become too long for the ratchet to tighten them anymore. Similarly, the bolt in the center of the sheath (which allows for squaring and leveling the post) is too close to the base of the sheath and doesn't allow a ratchet to grip on 100% in order to tighten it 100%. Fortunately, the fence is only framed at this point however, I'm taking it down, and starting over. Back to cement and Sonotube. :(

What size of sledgehammer works on this ????

Could these be used for a 10x10 treehouse 5' off the ground with 4 posts and attached to tree? Also, I have clay soil.

Not sure I would. My 6’ fence is pretty wobbly. However, one of my posts is at a 45 bend and it’s much more secure than all the straight section posts. So having a square plus attached to a tree and you might be fine but definitely not as secure as pouring cement.

What do you mean by "The Adjustable Ground Spike is Ideal as post support for low-height/light duty privacy fences"? My privacy screen is 6' tall and 5' wide. Do you think an adjustable spike at each end will support the screen?

I would not use it as a standalone post, it should be attached to something if you want stability.

Are these safe to use within a meter of a hydro line? I want to install a picket fence in my front yard but we have hydro lines running up the yard beside the driveway. Are these suitable for a 3 foot picket fence and safe to drive in?

can I use this for support posts of a deck that is about 2 ft. above ground?

I used these spikes for installing a 6 foot tall wood fence 100 feet long on a hill and there was some leaning after 20 years. I used the spikes to support a deck 12 x 12 and no problem after 20 years. I’m pretty sure this would not meet local standards. But if I had to remove it, the spikes come out of the ground a lot easier than cement.
