Rated 5 out of 5 by from Adds elegance to my home. I installed this gate myself with the assistance of my wife. It adds a richness and elegance to my home. This gate wouldn't warp and sag like the previous wooden gates I had. I used 4x4 x10 feet pressure treated posts, 3 feet into the ground and backfill with 1/4 down gravel. Keep the posts inline with each other and the faces of the posts parallel . 42 inches wide (top and bottom) is perfect. Any measurement less than 41 and 3/8 , the latch may not go into the latch plate. When screwing down the hinges, alternate between the 2 screws and go gently at the finish with the impact drill.

Can this gate be used with wooden fence3 posts?

Hi worker girl, thank you for your question. This gate can't be cut down to size and does need a 42 inch rough opening to accomodate the hinges and the latch. There is a gate available in the RailBlazers line of gates that can be made smaller. Please have a look at peakproducts.com under Railblazers for all options available there. These can be purchased at any Home Depot store across Canada. Thank you!

Mounting to wood on both sides. only have 41.5" opening - possible another 0.25" max. Can it work?

I installed this gate (love it) and measured carefully to answer this question. In my opinion, this gate will fit this opening (just barely.) If it fits a bit too snug, you could always chisel the wood where the hinge brackets mount and recess the bracket about 1/4". The hinge would still function properly. I would also recommend measuring your opening width in numerous locations to ensure the opening size is consistent.

How high does your post have to be for the top hinge?

Hello, Inorder to attach gate hinges, you - align top of gate post with top of fence post and attach U-shape bracket to the Aluminum fence post with 4 self-drilling fasteners “C”,.
