Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful light. I really like the light from these bulbs in my shop. It makes the colours pop and makes it easier on the eyes. I highly recommend these for a woodworking shop.

DO THESE REPLACE T12'S USING THE SAME SOCKETS ??

    Asked by: Anonymous
There are two issues. The sockets used to seat T12 bulbs will seat T8 bulbs just fine. But the bigger issue is the ballast that regulates the current and provides the appropriate voltage to operate. A T12 ballast will drive T8 bulbs but it really isn't a good idea since it will over drive the bulbs, heating the T8 bulbs up and reducing their life. In some cases they might not even work with a picky bulb. Your best bet if you don't want to replace the entire fixture is to buy a T8 ballast (You can buy ones to drive 1, 2,3 &4 bulbs) and replace your old one(s). I had old T12 fixtures (with 4 bulbs driven by two ballasts). I ripped out both T12 ballasts from the fixture. I replaced them with a single ICN-4P32-N T8 ballast to drive 4 new T8 bulbs. If you only have two bulbs you could buy an ICN-2P32-N which will drive two bulbs. With these Phillips T8 ballasts you can drive 1 or 2 bulbs with a 2 bulb ballast; or drive 3 or 4 bulbs with a 4 bulb ballast. These ballasts run in parallel (not series) so if one bulb dies it doesn't affect the others. The rewiring of the ballasts isn't difficult.
