Rated 3 out of 5 by from I like the output but... Bought a 3/pk of these a couple of weeks ago as replacements for halogens. I really like the warm light they emit but have had 1 of them die already. It was placed in a 4" Non IC pot light, I don't know the reason for the burn out, but after doing some reading on LEDs in general, I found that heat build up is the most likely cause of an LED to fail. Out of the ten or so various sized and different makes of LEDs I've bought this year (mainly Philips), 3 have failed. Two of them were Philips, the other Luminus. I conveyed my concerns to Philips and am awaiting a reply, but to continue moving forward on my replacement program, somebody has to convince me that LEDs are more reliable than what I've experienced. .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a good replacement for halogen PAR20 This bulb is great. It's a more or less direct replacement for the halogen PAR20s that are sold for in home use. The 2700K / 330 lumen / 35-degree spread specs are a good match for halogen PAR20s -- I currently have a mix of halogen and LED in my basement and it's not easy to see which is which.

Why are these lights not Energy Star rated?

It is stated on the packaging that 5W=50W. Other products are 8W=50W and are energy start rated.

Can these LED lights be used in damp locations

can these LED lights be used in a over head stove vent fan, the lights would be exposed to steam from stove top and etc.?

The box says. "Risk of electric shock -- Do not use where directly exposed to water". It doesn't mention steam. As well, LED bulbs are apparently not suited to being used in hot or enclosed environments. It makes them likely to burn out. So a stove top might not be a great location for an LED bulb until the technology improves.
