Rated 1 out of 5 by from Leds burn out I have looked all over for led lights and found that these were by far the nicest and by far the most expensive. After spending the $200.00. I found that a month later the last 6 leds have burned out. They simply were sitting on top of the kitchen cabinets not exposed to any thing and were never tampered with very disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome accent lighting I've always wanted to add accent lighting to my office, more specifically around my computer desk. These kits are amazing and super simple to use, I actually went out to buy another one to add lighting to a few areas around my living room. Its really given everything a whole new look. Rated 5 out of 5 by from useful format The LED strips provide a great strip lighting choice and extends the Hue light series nicely. There are two strips in the box, and a bridge that is needed to control them. Each strip provides 2m (78") of LED lighting. There is a 'wall-wart' power supply that plugs into a 120V outlet and then 1m (39") of wire, then a small 'brain box' about 3" long and then another 2.5m (98") of white wire. This lets one place the strip starting 3.5m (about 11') from a power source. When powered on, the LED strip cycles through some colors and then goes off again. These are therefore best plugged into a power supply that is not switched off so that they can be controlled through the Hue bridge. The LED strip and the colors are easily controlled with Hue software apps which allow preset scenes etc. The official Hue app has a clunky user interface but works. When plugged in without any lights on, each strip draws 400mW. When the lights are on at full intensity, each strip consumes about 4.3W. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HUE in rope light form! This is a flexible strip of LED lights, of which can be affxed to almost any surface. There is an adhesive backing to the strip that can be used to attach to a surface. Not sure of the actual durability and many of times these can be moved to new surface using the same original adhesive. These are stand alone lighting fixtures and can be placed almost anywhere, just a cord that plugs in. Setup requires the Hue Bridge to be connected to a router, where it then sends out a signal to the lighting fixture via the HUE app. You will have to download the app to your device, and setup an account. Once this is done you can control the lights with your device, in your home (iwhen connected to same wifi as router) or away (via internet connection). The app allows total control including preset scenes as well as alarms. Can easily be added to existing Hue lighting systems as well [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome idea. Great effects. Wow factor. Although pricey, consider the Hue products more as light fixtures rather than light bulbs. This starter kit includes a hub that provides wireless control of the lights. The hub sets up easily using a smartphone app (or webpage) with a simple button push. It does require a direct ethernet connection to your router rather than Wifi. The lights themselves are controlled via Wifi. The lightstrips are considerably bright if desired but can be dimmed in the app. Color possibilities are nearly endless. Response to the app is almost instantaneous and can also be controlled through other home automation systems such as Revolv and Mi Casa Verde. The strips do require an outlet but have an approximately 5 foot cord prior to the first LED bulb. If absolutely necessary the LED strip can be cut to shorter lengths at specific points (but then can't be reconnected). There is a 3M adhesive backing to mount the lights if needed. One strip I have threaded around the mounting rack for my TV that keeps it out of direct sight and does not require the adhesive. It provides a nice ambiance that can be changed on the fly or with 3rd party apps even synchronized to music. The other strip I have on the top of a bookcase to provide a red tinted "uplight" in a dark room that eliminates glare onto computer monitors that "white light" bulbs cause. Really great possibilities with these. Easy to recommend. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Favorite Friends of Hue Product The Friends of Hue Light Strip Starter Kit is a lot of fun but also provides some excellent accent lighting in my home. Setup was super easy and only required connecting the bridge to my router, downloading the app, and placing the strips. The app takes you through the steps to get everything going. The actual light strips are about six feet long. There is then a few feet of cord that connects to a small wireless control box. After the wireless box there is a small length of cord then a small power brick. I didn't have any issues but this extra cording may limit placement options for some. I placed one strip under our bar counter and one at the top of our wall unit entertainment center. The lighting from both locations is petty awesome since you don't expect light in either place. Like the rest of the Hue products, you can change the lights to one of 16 million different color pallets. - The strips can be cut shorter if needed - They work with the IF app - They work with many 3rd party apps - You can set timers, alarms, and set it to work with geofencing I really love the light strips starter kit. Philips continues to improve the hue app and its firmware. Just recently I discovered that the SyFy channel has a handful of shows that work with an app that makes the lights sync with the show. It's pretty neat. If you're considering getting this, do it. You'll love them. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Interesting product, but not that bright. Not the right tech for my home. Let's start with the basics - This was super easy to set up. I was put off by the instructions being so simple - Plug it all in and open the app. But, it pretty much worked. It was easy to set up and get working. I also played with a few other apps. The big down side here is that Hue doesn't play well with Wink which is being pushed pretty heavily by Home Depot for home automation in general. This primarily means that you can not control the Hue lights when not at home. Setting it up for automation sounds like a great thing to me and what I am interested in - But when I leave the house, the lights go out, even if someone else is home. The color was OK. They advertise 16 million colors. I don't know. I obviously can't visually determine the difference. I also can't tell the difference in brightness between 50% and 100% brightness which is sort of disappointing. I was planning to use this as lighting in the kitchen for both above and below the counter (work task lighting and ceiling up lighting) to replace fluorescents. These are NO WHERE bright enough to do so. It may be decent ambient lighting so that you can sort of make things out at night, but these do not throw a lot of light. Certainly not designed for work task lighting. This product helped me learn two things; 1) I don't need RGB lighting. I wanted to primarily use white light and thought it would be fun to be able to be festive around the holidays or for special occasions. I am not really sure this product does white well. It has a lot of color - but white seems strange. 2) Turning these on and off is cumbersome. If you want wireless control all of the time, you need to leave the light switch in the ON position. I am sort of OCD and this kills me... Then, you need to fiddle with the iPhone to open the app, select the bulb, and then get into settings. Not for me. I think I want the wireless wall switch and a "dumb" LED rope light that throws more lumens than these. In summary - It does what it says. But it's not very bright. If you are looking for dim accent lighting this could be cool. There is no hardwired option (for kitchen under lighting) and there is a mess of wires to tuck away. Cutting to length looks easy, but I didn't cut anything. I don't think this works with IFTTT either, which is a shame. If you want these to work just like whatever you are replacing, you might be in for a rude awakening.
