Rated 5 out of 5 by from Garden Box Cedar This purchase was almost 3 months ago when the stores were only open for curbside pickup. A little late in requesting a review. The lumber was good quality and I got what I requested.

What is the actual width of the boards after they have been installed and are fully acclimatized? My boards from store vary from 5 3/8" to 5.25", I am wondering if I should use the camo tool with them? don't like wide gaps but don't rotting either. thx

    Asked by: ABLiving
Hi, thank you for your question. The final width of the board after acclimatization may vary slightly from board to board. As an all natural product it is difficult to determine the size of the board due to the variance in moisture content when manufactured.Cedar is a relatively soft wood and can be moved into place without too much trouble, You do need to allow some space for moisture and possibly debris to not gather in any gaps. Ultimately the choice on spacing is up to you. The boards are Home Depot should, generally, shrink a little rather than expanding, although if they have been in the dry store environment they could be fairly dry.

will these boards shrink (or expand) in Edmonton, Alberta? anyone who installed these as deck boards please share your experience, especially how much of an initial spacing between boards and how the spacing changes over the years. Thanks!

    Asked by: ABLiving
I bought it for deck in 2019 fall, I keep each board about a nail-body-width between each other, and i found out this board shrink, and the space become double. I would suggest that do not keep space between each board, and you will see a nice result in the other year
