Rated 2 out of 5 by from Filter was expensive and last 3 months 4 months after installing this more expensive filtre the water taste and smell as if there was no filtre. The previous $20 unit did a better job for 6 months.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from easy to install I purchased this product as the one I have been using for years is no longer available. when I bought my fridge 30 years ago I decided to install an inline filter for the water and ice cub maker. the original one was much smaller and had to be changed every year. This one is a bit larger but the fittings are the same so it only took a few minutes to install it. After flushing it out for a few minutes the water came out crystal clear and tastes great and because it's good for 20,000 gallons it used be good for at least 3 years which makes it very economical

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Don't believe "5 Years" It says right on the packaging that this filter must be replaced every 6 months. I suspect Home Depot is swapping the picture for one filter for another.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So easy to install! I bought this product for my Hot Water Faucet and I merely undid one connection and inserted the filter. It was so easy to install, works. Just add a date of when you installed it and you are done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this product. Just replaced my first one after 3 or 4 years. I forget how long I've had it. The install is easy (takes 15 minutes.) The water quality is vastly superior to the fridge filter. I am considering adding one under the sink as well. Watts makes a great consumer product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great H2O filter Just bought a new refrigerator, and was not happy about the manufacturer's recommended 6 month replacement of an internal filter @ $50. Installed this filter in the supply line and bypassed the OEM version. Couldn't be happier with the water passing through the filer.

I have a 2008 GE Profile side by side. Will this work on this type of refrigerator, do I need to put a bypass plug in my existing filter manifold?

Asked by: DYS
The IL-20K in-line filter will work with any refrigerator, as it is installed directly on the water line BEFORE the water gets to the refrigerator and remains outside the refrigerator, rather than fitting into a built-in housing integrated into the refrigerator. All parts needed are included in the kit.

My change water filter light just come on, why, when I also have one of your long long laster filters installed.

I've installed both at the same time, and now my refrigerator light came on to change my internal filter. I thought that this would prolong the life of my very expensive internal filter....greatly appreciate you solution on this.....v/r

The "Change Filter" reminder on most refrigerators comes on after measuring 200 gallons of water. There is no facility or mechanism within the refrigerator to analyze the water quality. The technical guideline says that "if your ice cubes are small, irregular shapes or discolored you should change the filter". Another indication is when it takes an hour or more (OK, it seems like it's taking an hour or more) to fill a glass with water. I'm always reminded how cheap I am when I replace the filter and am pleasantly surprised by the improved water pressure.

How do you know when to change this filter?

We installed one about 5 years ago (has a 5 year recommended use time) yesterday it broke(somehow) and we had water all over our new hardwood floors and pouring down into our basement. If my husband had not discovered it my floor would have been ruined and my water bill would have been higher then it already will be. So is there someway to tell it needs to be changed before it breaks?
Asked by: LizD
Write the installation date on the filter. Then put a note in your calendar to replace it in 4 years. Why 4 instead of 5? Because lifecycle is based on "average" usage and you are probably above average! Seriously, don't be so cheap, this filter is a great buy as a 2 year filter, which might be more realistic if you're getting all your drinking and cooking water from the fridge. Just keep track for a week or so and you'll have a fair estimate for when you hit 20,000 gallons. If your water is like mine (desert, new community, several wells with varying flavors and solids) you might want to replace it at 10,000. I had a catastrophic failure (the cap blew off) with my $50 Frigidaire super filter (screw in at the bottom model) that made quite a mess. I now keep an inexpensive water alarm by the fridge,so don't think that this filter is any worse than those costing twice as much.

What is the size of the water connector? Is it 1/4 inch or 1/2 inch?

I would like to know the size of the connector for water in and out. Is it 1/4 inch or 1/2 inch? I am looking for an inline filter for my bidet, which I believe has 1/2 inch inlet connector.
Asked by: SebastianUSA
You can get a short (1 foot) tube that is 1/4" at one end and 3/8" (most common modern household plumbing) or 1/2" at the other. The fewer connections, the fewer opportunities for leaks. Compression connectors shouldn't require Teflon tape, but some people wear a belt and suspenders. Whenever you have metal to plastic or nylon connections be extra careful that you thread it on correctly. Even a hint of resistence, back it off and try again. Hand tighten, then a tiny boost with a wrench or spanner.

Will it work in a hand pump system?

I'm considering using this in line between the potable water holding tank and the hand pump in a 1958 canned ham trailer we are renovating. Will a hand pump be sufficient to draw the water through the filter or does it need commercial pressure to be effective?
Asked by: BonKo
The minimum pressure for this filter is 25 psi.
